Excellent game, much better than the original Death to Spies.,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Death to Spies: Moment of Truth (DVD-ROM)
Death to Spies Moment of Truth is much, much improved over the original Death to Spies game. Moment of Truth is not only graphically superior but the most important improvement would be the level design. Each mission in Moment of Truth is very well designed. It's obvious that a lot of planning went into the design of these levels. In the original Death to Spies, the level design was extremely frustrating even on the easiest difficulty. In Moment of Truth, the easy difficulty is very enjoyable. This time you can shoot enemies in the head and still be able to change into their clothing. And the uniforms you change into can easily get you into the areas that you need to get to without alarms going off every few seconds like in the original Death to Spies. The big difference in Moment of Truth is that as soon as you change into a uniform that should get you through an area all the guards alarm level changes from red to green so they don't bother you as long as you are in that uniform. With the original Death to Spies, it didn't matter what uniform you changed into. Most of the guards still stayed on red alert at all times. This is why the original Death to Spies was so frustrating. It really did NOT have an easy (enjoyable) difficulty but Moment of Truth does.
In Moment of Truth, there is an opportunity near the beginning of each level where you can obtain the correct uniform needed to proceed. There are also some very nice tips that are presented on the screen every now and then that will help you move along in each level. I can't stress enough how well these levels were thought out and designed. This makes for a much more enjoyable experience than the original Death to Spies. Graphically, Moment of Truth is a lot better than the original game. There are more video settings this time around that really add to the atmosphere of the game. You will not be disappointed in the graphics with Moment of Truth. There are pictures of Hitler, swastikas, Germans speaking German, and the whole game just has a very authentic WWII Nazi Germany feel to it. Another good thing about the game is that the US retail version works very well with XP SP2 even though the requirements state SP3 and it does not require the dvd to be in the drive when playing. I would highly recommend picking up Moment of Truth if you liked the original Death to Spies but were frustrated over the difficulty and level design.

Death to Spies: Moment of Truth can easily be summarized for many people by the words: Hitman for the hardcore. The stealth gameplay focuses on open environments, sabotage and disguise. This is not a Splinter Cell game where you stick to the shadows through linear levels... in this game you have an open compound to infiltrate and you mostly do it by walking in the sunlight with an enemy uniform on, careful not to behave strangely.
The best part about the gameplay is that it takes intelligence to master. Every level is almost like a puzzle where you have to figure out how to steal something or kill someone without being obvious about it. The levels leave subtle hints, like a character lamenting about his missing breakfast tray and a vial of poison in a closet. Others are less obvious, and you will have to really search for subtle methods of success. One thing I like about Moment of Truth compared to the original Death to Spies is that if the plan goes haywire you often can succeed anyway through sheer force of will... in one mission I could not figure out how to kill someone using the environment, so eventually I just snuck into his office and put a bullet in his head... Moment of Truth allows for the direct approach pretty often if all else fails. Moment of Truth is a Russian game and like many other Russian games recently is a PC exclusive tailor made for the platform and focused on a hardcore niche audience rather than the mainstream gamer. This is good in that menus, controls and graphics all look and feel like a PC game, but also a negative in that it does not have the AAA mainstream game "pizazz," for lack of a better term. Those looking for Assassin's Creed production values are better off passing this one by, but if you want crisp visuals, good looking environments and hardcore espionage gameplay, Death to Spies: Moment of Truth is a game for you. Also: it's completely DRM free.

This game could be better. It didn't have enough suspense to keep me playing. The graphics were bland and dark. Not much to this one in my opinion but don't take my word for it.
