Book Description

May 17, 2010
A $100,000 student loan is murder-but then so is a human head stashed in your pantry. Anyone who has ever struggled under the weight of a hefty student loan can appreciate the extreme lengths one might be willing to explore in order to shift the burden a bit-even if it means stealing the head of a corpse, or traveling into the past. Mariah Garrett has two weighty problems-crushing agoraphobia, and a six-figure student loan, the result of locking herself away in a seaside Victorian cottage to complete her PhD-online. While desperately looking for something to sell on eBay one morning, Mariah discovers a staircase in the back of a closet. As she starts down, her foot catches, plummeting her to the bottom-and into the year 1957, where she meets her long-dead relatives and discovers that even the Nifty Fifties can be a dangerous place.

More About the Author

I write the November series of fantasy novels. November Atwood is a teenage girl who is destined to travel back into time to overcome the evil Astraroth, a vile collector of souls. In November in Salem:The Bargain of Witches, she sets out to put right the depravity Astaroth has unleashed throughout the ages. But amidst the turmoil and sorrow springs a love that will span time when November meets Thomas Parris, the son of the village vicar. Can love survive between a 21st century girl and a boy from the 17th? Not if Astraroth has anything to do with it..!

In addition to the November series, I also pen the Student Loan Mystery series. Death by Student Loan introduces the series and Mariah Garrett who, after locking herself away for four years in her deceased aunt's Victorian house by the sea, has managed to earn her PhD online and develop a severe case of Agoraphobia. But she's got bigger problems than a $100,000 student loan and an aversion to the great outdoors-Mariah has a human head in a Tupperware bowl, stashed in her pantry-and it's going to take her tumbling down an old staircase into 1957 to help her be rid of it!

***

At present, I am working on a third series: SILK is the first in The Nile Coal Vampire Lexicon series. I think the tag line pretty much says it all-"Suppose Jack The Ripper was a vampire all along?" Watch for Nile Coal in the fall of 2011..

5.0 out of 5 stars Good beach read!, May 20, 2011

This is great little book for those looking for a light-hearted romp into the past via an old trap door in the back of a closet in a beachside cottage. I especially enjoyed this author's humor. But I think the best thing about this murder mystery is that it surprised me at the end! I can usually guess where a book is headed, but this ending floored me. It completely wraps up every question and leaves nothing dangling. And I promise you, you will laugh throughout, and come to love the characters in this novel. Hope to see a sequel soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars A hilarious trip back to the 50's..!, May 9, 2011
I absolutely LOVED this book! I don't often take the time to sit down and review a book. But this one was worth it. If you like reading a book that is packed with humor, action, and a whirlwind trip into the past--this one's for you! Tight writing, tongue-in-cheek, irreverent at times--Death by Student Loan is for anyone who wishes they could escape from NOW into a much more interesting time. Can't wait for the sequel! Don't keep us waiting LC..!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Time Travel mystery...!!, January 2, 2011
The title of this book caught my eye and I'm glad that it did..! The author's voice is fresh and her humor is contagious. The characters are real and the kind of folks I like to hang out with. I like too that the setting of the book is real--Surfside Beach is a place I've been going to since my parents took my sisters and I as kids. But the best part of this book is that it is a refreshing change from the "cozy" formats of food and knitting. This one travels back into time. Without giving away too much--let's just say that 1957 seems like a great place to visit, not so much "Happy Days" as "Deadly Doings."
