"A hilarious, sexy, heart-pounding ride, that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Tara Holloway is the IRS's answer to Stephanie Plum--smart, sassy, and so much fun. Kelly's debut has definitely earned her a spot on my keeper shelf!" (New York Times bestselling author Gemma Halliday)

"The subject of taxation usually makes people cry, but prepare to laugh your assets off with Diane Kelly's hilarious debut." (Jana DeLeon, author of the Ghost-in-Law series)

Who knew the IRS was so sexy? (The Alcalde)

"With her quirky humour and incredibly witty aside jokes, Diane Kelly has created a real winner and a star for her debut book in her "Death and Taxes" series. Who (besides Dilbert) says that accountants must be dour, humorless trolls? This is a very entertaining book with vivid, memorable characters and a clever plot. I laughed the whole way through and can't wait to see what Tara gets up to in January.

Keep 'em coming.

It was refreshing to read this light-hearted and entertaining story about an IRS investigator, especially since smiles aren't often found on the same page as the Treasury Department. Tara reminded me a bit of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum (but much better with guns) and this book had a healthy mix of romance, humor and a sometimes-dangerous money trail. The book is very well written and what one would expect from a Golden Heart winner. Nice to see that Tara is returning in a sequel in Death, Taxes, and a Skinny No-Whip Latte. Love that title too!

In "Death, Taxes and a French Manicure," Tara Holloway, IRS agent, is a character you won't forget. Tough, funny and sassy, she's a hot shot with her trusty Lugar and too gutsy for her own safety. The other characters in the story are equally colorful and humorous, even when they are armed and dangerous.

Amidst the stake-out action, the hints at a budding romance with a sexy landscape designer, and the vivid descriptions of life in Dallas, TX, I even learned a few tidbits about tax law and the ways people try to screw the government. I confess I have a crush on that landscape designer and am looking forward to Tara's next adventure.

The overall story isn't bad but the writing leaves much to be desired. For $2.99 you get about what you pay for.

The first two thirds of the book is primarily dedicated to the daily hygiene, grooming, and fashion rituals of "Holly" and pesky things like character development and plot are, for the most part, ignored.

The first person constant self reflection on how good Holly looks in various outfits is as irritating as when you are forced to be in the room with one of those people who's constantly checking themselves out in whatever mirror they can find. An entire romantic relationship is formed without any real explanation but we have thorough understanding of both characters physiques, wardrobes, and use of product.

At times it seems the author may have gone back and borrowed snippets from her teenage diary... "the warmth of his skin sending yummy signals to other parts of my body with hungers yet to be satisfied." Doesn't exactly sound like a highly intelligent IRS Special Agent/Sophisticated Fashionista type.

Oddly enough in the back portion of the book, when the author starts focusing more on the action, she gets better and she finally finds a hint of a plot. I'm not saying it gets great, but it gets better.

Death, Taxes and a French Manicure is a delight. Heroine Tara Holloway is sharp as a tack, down to earth, and very funny. Her undercover work tracking the drug-peddling ice cream man is a stitch (it's not easy hiding a gun under those outfits), but her biggest challenge is figuring out which side of the law the new man in her life is on. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next installment (due out in February).

From the first page, Tara Holloway is off and running, making me laugh out loud. And there's no let up throughout the entire book while Kelly's characters chase after the bad guys. I found myself reading slower because I didn't want the story to end. It was way too much fun. I can't wait to read the next adventure which I've already purchased.
