Who (besides Dilbert) says that accountants must be dour, humorless trolls? This is a very entertaining book with vivid, memorable characters and a clever plot. I laughed the whole way through and can't wait to see what Tara gets up to in January.

Keep 'em coming.

It was refreshing to read this light-hearted and entertaining story about an IRS investigator, especially since smiles aren't often found on the same page as the Treasury Department. Tara reminded me a bit of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum (but much better with guns) and this book had a healthy mix of romance, humor and a sometimes-dangerous money trail. The book is very well written and what one would expect from a Golden Heart winner. Nice to see that Tara is returning in a sequel in Death, Taxes, and a Skinny No-Whip Latte. Love that title too!

This book had me from the first sentence:

"When I was nine, I formed a Silly Putty pecker for my Ken doll, knowing he'd have no chance of fufilling Barbie's needs given the current state of erectile dysfunction with which the toy designers at Mattel had cursed him."

That first sentence set the tone for the entire book. The heroine, Tara Holloway gave up a plush life with a plush job and a plush office to work for the IRS. She finds herself in a series of adventures trying to take down a drug-selling ice cream man. She carries a gun, but never dreams she'll have to use it because remember - she's working for the IRS. To make matters worse, she becomes suspicious that her new boyfriend is involved in some shady dealings. Then, she has to embark on her own perilous investigation to learn the truth. This book was filled with humor, action, colorful characters, and a great story. I'm looking forward to reading about Tara's other adventures.

A friend recommended this book on the Romance Bandits Blog [...] and I bought it based on the discussion. I was SO glad I did! What a fabulous debut! I burned through it - great characters, great pacing, wonderful storyline that kept me guessing - then bought Death Taxes and a Skinny No-Whip Latte, which didn't disappoint either. I've found a new "auto-buy!" Keep 'em coming, Ms. Kelly!

Tara Holloway is a much more interesting and engaging character than Evanovich's Stephanie Plum. This novel moves at a fast pace and will hold any reader's attention. Fine first novel. I have already started the second Tara Holloway novel.
