Editorial Reviews

2010 release, the 13th studio album from the Goth legends, their first new album in six years. Death Trip features 10 original songs recorded in Hallucinosound. Self-written, self-produced and self-financed, Death Trip is a truly independent release from a totally independent band. This album is 100% Alien Sex Fiend's own creation! The album is a B movie sci-fi / horror concept, each track with a connection to the next, covering a diverse sonic spectrum from old skool Fiend sound to Punk and Industrial to current cutting edge.

Mr. and Mrs. Fiend have put together a great collection of new songs on this release. The album is consistently innovative and unique which I is why Im such a fan of ASF. The "instrumentals" are intensely creepy and more than one friend described them as sounding like "Halloween Music" lol. Im sure Mr. and Mrs. Fiend would find that a compliment!! Ive been a fan for many years now and I think Death Trip is one of their best releases yet. Do yourself a favor and add this to your collection. One Way ticket and Voodoo are my favorite tracks and easily the best songs of the summer of 2010. Lets hope ASF continue to make the music they do. Long live the Fiends!!!!

Yet another messy release from a once groundbreaking band. ASF has released a lot of music over the years, the best of which, in my opinion, ACID BATH in 84 , ANOTHER PLANET in 88, CURSE in 90, and OPEN HEAD SURGERY in 92, with a ton of other singles, ep's and live albums all around there. These albums were all incredible, with fully fleshed out songs with thick layered synths and beats that were impossible not to dance to. Nik's vocals, always sounded off kilter in just the right way, fitting perfectly into every song, and undeniably unique. Then came an album in 1994 called INFERNO. It was basically background tracks for a video game, and for what it was, it was good I suppose. Honestly though, if I want to listen to music from a video game, I'd probably just play the game. Regardless, this was a true departure for ASF, as it bore virtually no resemblance to their previous work. It was redundant and repetetive. Almost no vocals from Nik to be found anywhere. More of a collection of loops and sound effects with no real song structure. This was acceptable, being it was written for a video game. I figured they would return to their signature sound after this "phase".
Then came NOCTURNAL EMISSIONS, INFORMATION OVERLOAD, and now DEATH TRIP. All three of these sound like they are still working on the INFERNO soundtrack. Not a single song that I can even call listenable!!! Just collections of loops that go absolutely nowhere and leave you scratching your head wondering what the hell they were thinking. One song on DEATH TRIP just repeats the phrase "Are you F#@king psychic?" about 50 times with a useless drum loop in the background. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? What happened? Why did they stop trying? Unfortunately the worst part of all is when Nick does decide to sing.
