One of their best ...,
By Blacklab "Blacklab" (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews

I've been a fan of Sick Of It All for many many years and while I'm not a fan of "hardcore, I always keep my eye on what these guys are doing. No matter where the trends go or how hardcore ebbs and flows in popularity, Sick Of It All keeps putting out solid, quality records and Death To Tyrants is no different. I'll admit a bit of apprehension when, in a recent interview, guitarist Pete Koller said that they tuned down for this album. My hope was that Pete and Co. wouldn't put out some clunky metal album with "that" sound that is so popular nowadays. Happily, they didn't. Death To Tyrants is solid through and through, and easily one of the group's best efforts. In fact, it's unbelievable how good it is. Take The Night Off, Maria White Trash, Uprising Nation, and Die Alone are instant classics. This new tuning scheme is the perfect update for the SOIA sound - thick, versatile, and heavy as hell. Really really heavy. From beginning to end, Death To Tyrants burns with energy and intensity that is truly a rarity.Apparently, this record marks SOIA's 20th year. Other than making me feel old, it's pretty significant milestone for a band these days. When you consider how much sway popular media outlets have over who's going to make it, it's amazing that anyone lasts. To be able to boast a catalog without one weak release, to tour non-stop for over twenty years, to be able to still deliver an unmatched live show, and - maybe most importantly - to still have integrity are claims that most bands can't make. Even if you're not into hardcore, buy this album. Thankfully, Sick Of It All are still here to remind us what really good music is and they deserve to keep going for another twenty years.

Man, all I have to say about this album is go out and purchase this right away or buy from amazon. The hardcore legends tear it up from the first minute to the end

Heavy AND Fast,

They've really combined the quickness and the thickness on this album, and it sounds fantastic. "Life on the Ropes" was their heaviest record since "Scratch the Surface," and this one is actually even heavier, but it also has more fast songs than anything they've done since "Call To Arms." The lyrics are great, too, as usual, and there are no "filler" songs at all (I might be a little biased, though; I don't think they ever have any filler songs).
