4.0 out of 5 stars Death by Unga Bunga, December 24, 2003
This review is from: Death By Unga Bunga (Audio CD)
I won't bore you with a track by track analysis, so here's my brief review---

This CD is comprised of all the 45s the Mummies have released throughout the years. Most songs are rougher and more lo-fi than on 'Never Been Caught.' The songs are still good though. I liked 'Never Been Caught' better; I felt the tracks flowed more and it was more of a CD you wouldn't want to skip any track with, just listen through the whole way. Anyways, if you already have 'Never Been Caught,' and you like it, buy this CD. If you're just getting into the Mummies, buy 'Never Been Caught.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Garage-Punk band ever!, May 3, 2004

It can definetly be argued that the Mummies were the greatest garage-punk band of all time. Why? Well, they put together the catchiest, most raw, funniest, in your face tunes out there. The Mummies used the worst equiptment that they could find so as to sound as unprofessional as possible and have that lo-fi garage-punk sound that made them such an excellent band. Originally none of the Mummies material was available on CD (all of the 45s and 12 inches that they put out used to have a stamp on the back of them saying how much they hated CDs). Do yourself a favor and get this CD!!! It's full of great songs and is proof that music doesn't have to be overly-polished to be excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Death by Unga Bunga!!, January 29, 2004

The Mummies - what a band. This overview of their finest work is some of the most winning, grimy, infectious rock'n'roll you are ever likely to hear. Just pray that they drive their famous touring ambulance over to your town in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lo-Fi Mono-sters of Trash-Punk, November 5, 2011
This review is from: Death By Unga Bunga (Audio CD)
The Mummies are the Budget Rock Lo-Fi Mono-sters of Trash-Punk. The band bandaged from head to toe in full Mummy regalia knocks it out fast, loud, & loose. The Mummies are great, with bandages that hold in more raw guts than brains. Taking their cue from bands like The Ramones or The Cramps, The Mummies gnawed at Rocks' picked over bones & looked back to go forward. They drudged the sewers of the Radio's checkered past, found some sweltering musical numbers, (Like `Down Home Girl') and pulled `em kicking & screaming through the present and into the future. Once loaded into the Mummies garage, they stripped `em down, got `em drunk, and tore `em to shreds. Shake, shake, shaken with their own crunchy melodies, (which will really make yer ears bleed,) and you've got The Budget Rock Showcase. If they don't cut to the bone, & leave you in stitches, you'll never get it - poseur.

The Mummies live shows are legendary, with wild, drunken battles amongst the band (mono-sters don't play well with others). Although the BGI (Budget Rock International) Official press release actually admits that the Mummies were a scam. Claude Bols at BGI recruited various session players, and those bandages were the perfect gimmick to make all Mummies replaceable & interchangeable. Like flies circling a rotting corpse, lies, deceit and the stench of misdirected animosity have always hovered over the Mummies. The only thing holding it all together were those grubby bandages and stronger than dirt, crunchy melodies.

Swearing and staggering, The Mummies stuck by their guts to `never sell out'. Although offers of money, women & "stuff" poured it from the BIG Record Companies (including the cretins at Sup PoP) the Mummies stayed the course, and turned them all down flat. They also stuck by their Vinyl Mono Motto of Lo-Fi 45s and Lps, never a xxxx CD. So check out this incredible "Death by Unga Bunga!!" CD. "xxxx Vinyl, `cause this CD xxxx soundee so good.... now, with bass! That's right. Apparently, The Mummies did have a bass player, as these master tapes have revealed. Yup, 22 tracks culled from their now ridiculously overpriced, collector's item 45's.... PLUS: Four free bonus tracks not included."

This CD comes from hoodlums in a garage pounding it out day after night. The Mummies put the Danger and the Death (By Unga Bunga!! back in Rock & Roll. So Don't Blow It, Get it.
