This was my first exposure to the Inspector Charlie Woodend series, and I was pleased to find that there are a lot more titles available. I found it to be an Ed McBain 87th Precinct tale set in England in the 70s.
The story is dark, involving the kidnapping and murder of children. The police investigating the case are understandably edgy and anxious to halt any further killings. The plot twists are unexpected and refreshing. It is well written with several engaging characters, just the kind of thing that works well for a series. I will certainly check out more of Sally Spencer's works. |
