Amazon's better than last one!,

This review is from: Deathlands: Amazon Gate (Mass Market Paperback)
This newest Deathlands starts out quite good and interesting. For some reason Jak takes center stage in this one....The story centers on Jak being somehow mind-linked to the leader of the amazons - and that can't be a bad thing right? ... Anyway, the two groups meet and form a tenous alliance against the Illumanated Ones -... The writing was overall pretty good and the characters, (except Ryan) were pretty much in character. Now, this would have been better and a great opportunity to have Krysty use her mutie strength in a fight with an amazon.... Now, the part of this newest story with the enhanced stickies was a very good idea, just poorly written in the fact that they were just too ... easy to kill. Wrong I say. This is what the late, great original writer would have NOT done! Good guys have got to die here folks. ... take the deathlands plunge back to the more darker, and more savage side and make this series great again! Not just good and mediocre - but legendary...

This book will drive firearm knowledgeable readers nuts,

This review is from: Deathlands: Amazon Gate (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read the Deathlands series since it began. There have always been small errors regarding firearms. These have gotten far worse since James Axler quit writing this series. Whoever wrote this installment knows nothing about firearms and in a series where firearms play such a large part, this is sad. Can't they have someone who knows something about guns review the books prior to publishing them? Apparently not.An otherwise enjoyable installment is laid low by such ridiculous ideas that a gun with high recoil is somehow less accurate or that you have to "chamber" a round in a revolver as you would a semi-automatic. Of course the idea that these warriors would walk around with an unloaded semi-auto pistol is equally absurd. And why would laser rifles that function perfectly during practice suddenly become inaccurate and dangerous when used in combat? I could go on, but I won't. Be warned tho, if you know anything about firearms, this book will make you nuts.

This book brings our heroes and readers closer to who is really behing the world power structure as it is. Knowing they are not alone in their search Ryan and crew have formed a touchy alliance with a group that is almost evenly matched in strength and skills as they are. This alliance will open different avenues for the author to explore. I am looking forward to the next volume. Destiny's Truth.
