I wonder if the reason why I have no problem with the changes in musical direction of Throwdown is because I was not aware of them before Venom and Tears came out back in 2007. 1.0 out of 5 stars Extra! Extra! Throwdown becomes Slowdown!!!
I guess I'm still having a hard time figuring out what these guys were trying to do this time around. I can't imagine how the band's 20-some ex-members feel. If any of them were dead, they'd be spinning in their graves right now. But let's back up two years. Venom & Tears came out and was, well, not a hardcore album. 5.0 out of 5 stars Evolution of a band, November 11, 2009

I wonder if the reason why I have no problem with the changes in musical direction of Throwdown is because I was not aware of them before Venom and Tears came out back in 2007. This new offering by the band sounds alot more mature and (although most will not agree with me) more original than would be expected. Dave is actually using clean vocals mixed in with the more aggressive style. I read a review of this cd the day it came out and the person mentioned comparisons from bands like Alice in Chains among others. I also hear similarities to other bands as well ( I hear some old Priest style singing in one of the songs) but anyone would be hard put to mention any band that does not sound like another out right now or before.

Venom and Tears is an album that will stay in regular rotation for the foreseeable future. I cannot count the number of times I have listened to that cd more than once all the way through (except for the voice mail track 13) over a long trip. I feel this way about Deathless too. I especially like This Continuum and The Blinding Light.

Being a guitar player I am learning riffs from some of the songs including Continuum already after only listening to it for a short time. This cd grooves and even though the other review I read mentioned this is a total departure from hardcore I must not know what the means exactly cause a couple of songs like Headed South and Black Vatican have moments that seem very hardcore to me.

All in all I find that Throwdown are creating music that they believe in and I for one plan to crank this one up as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Extra! Extra! Throwdown becomes Slowdown!!!, February 1, 2010

Coming from a band that started out as a straight-edge hardcore band, this very metal approach didn't sit too well with most fans. I got used to their new sound, which was pretty much Pantera circa 1992, and grew to like the album. This time around, however, they sound like Godsmack, circa 1998. Dave ATTEMPTS to sing, but sounds like a fool and the rest of the band plays boring songs lacking any memorable riffs or hooks. With a new record full of slow, sludgy hard rock songs (save the first two tracks), this band could easily change their name from Throwdown to Slowdown. Unfortunately, that may just be the path their career follows after this critical upset.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the negative, this is good, December 5, 2009

It seems like their are some people bashing this album because the singer actually sings on a few songs instead of screaming. I think this is the band's best album. The production is excellent and all the songs are hard driving. There are a few songs on this album that I would say are outstanding- Continuim and Blinding light. If you like Pantera style metal, you will love this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars PANTERA LIVES!, January 11, 2010
This review is from: Deathless (Audio CD)
This totally Pantera reincarnated. Love it. I miss the good ol' days of the band that made metal what it is. Throwdown is keeping that tradition alive. This is the best metal I have heard in a very long time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for old fans, December 30, 2009
This review is from: Deathless (Audio CD)
Ok so this album gets 3 stars because its musically as good as any other mainstream crap out there these days. If your looking for the aggressive throwdown then this is not it. Theres some ok parts to the album but put simply, its a cash grab.

Song structures are alot more like atreyu or killswitch with hard verse soft chorus. Not pummeling anthems like the previous releases.

I like all their offerings, including venom and tears, sure it was a rip off, but of good stuff, and it was relentlessly aggressive. This is not.

You can kill integrity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metal heads need to open the shades and let the light shine in!!, November 21, 2009
This review is from: Deathless (Audio CD)
Give me a break! No matter what, when a band decides they can play a little better than sliding a couple power chords they are labeled a sell out. Look, this cd has a perfect mix in my opinion of many styles, but clings to Throwdown's roots with a sense of power and aggression. It hits hard, but also has a melody that creates clever hooks you will be singing to yourself when you aren't even listening to the cd. Not one songs is below average, so I don't have to skip around. Listen with an open mind and you won't miss out on a great metal cd. It aggrevates me to see a great band produce an awesome cd only to have totally biased people give false ratings. Trade in your black tee shirts and tight ripped jeans, it's 2009 and it's out of date!!!!

Yes Throwdown has changed over time. But this is an improvement over Venom and Tears.

4.0 out of 5 stars ...because they're sick of not making money!, November 25, 2009

This review is from: Deathless (Audio CD)
Throwdown is a great band. This is much more evolved, mature, and intricate written album than when they were say... teenagers. Band's can only live so long on spaghetti noodles and butter- they have to make some money and go torward the style of the majority to make some cash. This album should have been titled- Venom & Tears: Part 2. Dosen't make me want to kill people and change the world like Vendetta did, but I'll take it.
