5.0 out of 5 stars Born to race!
Born to satisfy my musical needs suits even better!

These guys are simply insane, all the energy, aggressions and speed wines up in one hell of a hybrid.
On this very record they just slow down one time, on the track Dead man's song, but don't fear, instead of speed you get crasy heaviness.

And if you haven't heard The Crown before, the music is very intense,...

3.0 out of 5 stars 7, I Guess...
This is the kind of music they play in Hell, at drag races. A quick listen would deem The Crown another At The Gates rip-off, but this disc is something different for sure. It does have that perfect crunchy Swedish production perfected by the aforementioned and oft-mentioned crew, but this is one different rip-roaring hellride indeed. The Crown have perfected the "death...

Born to satisfy my musical needs suits even better!

On this very record they just slow down one time, on the track Dead man's song, but don't fear, instead of speed you get crasy heaviness.

And if you haven't heard The Crown before, the music is very intense, their drummer is fu**** insane, unhuman stamina!
There's so much variations in his drumplaying, one of my favorite drummers of all time.
The guitarists are also insane, heavy and speedy riffs combined with the cool bass breeds headbangning!

Everything I've heard about this band is great, insane brutal death metal with melody, can it get any better than this!?
Yes, the music is even catchy...it's get stuck on your head for hours after your first listen.

So enjoy this masterpiece, buy it, you wont regret it!

Like its sucessor, the even more amazing "Crowned in Terror," "Deathrace King" helps reestablish the vitality of thrash metal with blinding speed, precise musicianship, and boundless enthusiasm. The aptly titled opener "Deathexplosion" sets the tone for what's to follow, building in speed and intensity for its first minute until it almost hurts to listen to. The album continues in the same vein from there, with ripping compositions highlighted by throat-ripping vocals, joyously blazing riffs, and a thumping rhythm section. The guitar leads are worthy of mention as well, as they are extremely to-the-point and efficient, in a manner reminiscent of "Kill 'Em All."
I guess Metallica's debut is a worthy point of comparison for this album, as the Crown have perfectly captured the energy and agression that made early thrash works so compelling. Even when the Crown finally slow things down on "Dead Man's Song," the result is an excellent grind that brings to mind the best work of Alice in Chains. Of course, the band follows that track with the absolutely blazing "Total Satan," so the reprieve from all-out speed is short. What's perhaps most impressive about the Crown, and someone else mentioned it here as well, is that the band manage to seize on their old-school influences while at the same time crafting their own fresh sound. I just can't say enough good things about this band or their last two albums, so I'm just going to stop now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Death/Thrash!, June 4, 2000

Wow.This album is as if Judas Priest had done a death metal album. This album is even more steeped in the great traditional metal trappings than the last album (Hell is Here), and its great. Its basically blackened death/thrashmixed with that good ol' leather'n chains balls-out metal feel of real 80's thrash and power metal. One highlight is drummer Janne Saarenpaa who is like a drummachine on steroids. The guitar team of Tervonen and Sunnesson is poised to be the Hanneman/King of the 21sy century (and they are much better than those two!). Totally rocking, just not worth 5 stars, because Hell Is Here is still better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album these guys EVER made!, January 8, 2010
This review is from: Deathrace King (Audio CD)
This album is aboslutely brilliant. I was instantly hooked one the first track started. Fast riffs, mind blowing solos, ear pounding drumming, and some of the best harsh vocals you'll ever hear. With the exception of Vengance, which slows the pace a little but is still a great song, this album is nonstop death-thrash. IF these songs don't pump you up, then call your doctor cause you are dead!

Favorite tracks: Executioner: Slayer of the Light, Rebel Angel, Blitzkrieg Witchcraft, and Total Satan.

MUST BUY for any true metalhead.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... no words to describe ..., August 31, 2004
This review is from: Deathrace King (Audio CD)
I couldn't give less than 5 stars! No way!
Simply put, this is the best metal record I have ever heard in my entire life. Not only the best death metal, the best metal in any cathegory. I'm really sorry they had to call it quits because another excellent band falls (without cash or support)... it's really bad cause the quality shown here should have made them rich and popular. It's really sad.

Please, if you haven't heard this outstanding CD, do yourself a favor and hunt it down until you find it. I beg you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Swedish Masterpiece!!!, December 16, 2001

What? Yet another Swedish band that can do no wrong? Yeah, you got that right. Probably the best way to describe The Crown's "Deathrace King" is by illustrating a balance between Entombed's mid-90's death-n-roll heaviness (ala "Wolverine Blues" and "To Ride...") and the masterful melodic death metal of "Slaughter Of The Soul" era At The Gates. Believe me, making favorable comparisons to these other legendary Swedish bands is far from coincidental. If there's any justice in the world of Metal, The Crown will soon be considered legendary in its own right. Yeah, they're that good! This is one of those bands that makes labels and genres pretty useless, since "Deathrace King" encompasses a handful of them and one simple classification does no justice whatsoever. Suffice it to say that if you are interested in The Haunted, Witchery, Entombed, At The Gates, and countless others, this is your new essential listening.
What seems to make "Deathrace King" such a triumph is the album's overall vibe and atmosphere. This is a band that has a blast doing what they do, and their furious passion for playing metal makes them all the more convincing. As strange as this may seem, the is a prime case in point of how a prominent feeling or vibe can send an album through the roof.
"Deathrace King" sounds like the work of veterans. In fact, this is actually The Crown's fourth album, although their first two were under the name Crown Of Thorns (and although the name change was required for legal purposes, the shorter version actually sounds cooler). The mature songwriting is the greatest evidence that these guys have been cranking out metal for a while, and it's refreshing to hear actual songs, rather than wank-fests written for the sole purpose of showing off. There's no pretentiousness here, just razor-sharp slabs of violence that go straight for the throat. It's a great mix between power, brutality, and melody (in the gnarly death metal sense, that is). Above all, the glue that binds everything together is Janne's amazing, tighter-than-a-rubber-glove drumming. With an onslaught of maddening, thrashing riffs going in for the kill, you've got a death-thrash platter of the finest order. Finally, on top of it all are Johan's occasionally unconventional lyrics (but hey, they work great with the music!) delivered with a furious throaty growl.
Perhaps the reason you're checking out The Crown is because you're already into Swedish metal - or should I say the NWOSMDMOW (New Wave Of Swedish Melodic Death Metal Or Whatever). If that's the case, this is absolutely essential - partly because of the parallels they hold with that genre, and partly because of their talent for defying that genre with two-fisted rebelliousness at the very same time. They may fit in that "Swedish metal" bracket, but The Crown definitely has its own style firmly intact - which is exactly why I think they'll become legendary in their own right. Don't make the mistake of assuming you know what this band sounds like, because you'll be missing out on a jaw-dropping slab of mayhem that every serious metal-head should experience. And with Tomas (from At The Gates) taking over as The Crown's vocalist after the release of "Deathrace King", it seems that things will only get better.
Born to race, indeed...

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Fantastic, April 16, 2001

I first learned of The Crown in an interview with Testament's Eric Peterson. He said he'd been listening to them recently, and was enjoying their energy.

So I purchased Hell is Here, and was not disappointed! Fierce drums and guitar work, along with ripping vocals. Then came Deathrace King...and after about a straight week of listening to it, I realized that it hadn't left my CD player...and well...it still is in it. It's been in there a couple months or so, and I don't see it leaving in the near future...depending on the new Dimmu Borgir CD!

Buy this CD, it will grow into your head, and fast!
