One of the best games...EVER!,
By Lenon Maguire (Belleville, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deathrow (Video Game)
What is Deathrow? AWESOME!What is it? Deathrow is a game set in the future similar to what you see in Robocop. The actual game is called Blitz and it started as violent, underground sport. It has been brought to TV by a network and is the top rated show in the world. The game itself is like a cross between Frisbee Ultimate and Rollerball. There are 4 people to a side, and the point it to take the glowing ring, (similar to a frisbee except for the fact it hovers), and throw it through the opppnents goal which is a ring placed approx. 8 feet above the ground. The hard part is that the other team will do ANYTHING to stop you. They will punch, kick, grab, throw, stomp, and cuss at you. You gain credits (like $'s) for scoring goals, inflicting injuries, and knocking out the other teams players. These credits allow you to heal and train players, buy new players, and buy steroid-type drugs that increase performance. To win a match, you must either score more goals than the other team after 4 periods, or knock out all four of the opponent's players in a quarter. Each victory gives you UCs (unlock credits). With the UCs, you can unlock new players, new arenas, new teams, and new modes of play. The harder the difficulty level, the more UCs you recieve per victory. This makes you want to play better so you can unlock more items, thus extending the replay value. This game is like video crack. Once you start playing, you really can't stop. Everything about this game is thought out and well planned. The gameplay and player AI is incredible, the graphics are sharp and detailed, the animation is fluid and very life like, and the teams and players all have unique personalities and attributes making it fun to unlock and play with more teams. This game really is the total package. I thought this game would be good, but it is incredible. A friend came over to play, and on the way home in the middle of the night he drove to a 24 store to buy his own copy because he had to have it. I have 3 other games that are less than 3 weeks old collecting dust because this is all I have been playing. I will put a ton of hours in this one, and I will never trade it. An anchor in my game collection. This purchase is worth every penny and then some. The developers said they all love games and wanted to make a game that incorporated their favorite elements into one gaming experience. The result is nothing short of spectacular. I am 30 years old and have been gaming since I was 7 or 8, and this is truly one of the best games I have ever played.

One of the Best X-Box Games You Can Own,
By Robert Fabriano Jr. (Bordentown, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deathrow (Video Game)
Deathrow is truly one of the great X-Box games released this year. Deathrow takes place in the distant future, where a new ultra-violent sport has risen. Blitz Ball has become the most popular sport in the world and you are in control of a blitz ball team. The game is a mix of ultimate freesbie meets WWE. Its very violent, has alot of profanity and has few rules. Action is fast past sporting a overhead view and an action view (3rd person view) which you can pick from. Fights occur often, are fairly simplistic, brutal and throughly enjoyable. The game has dozens of unlockable features including players, arenas and other types of gameplay. This games also supports 4 players on 1 X-Box as well as many more through the system-link. This is a truly awesome game that everyone should enjoy. Not to be played by children who are not used to blood, violence and liberal use of profanity.

Already one of my favorite games of all time!,

I just purchased this game a few days ago and I can't put it down. It is somewhat a variation of Speedball Brutal Deluxe. At first Deathrow may seem to be shallow game. But after you understand all the nuances of it you will find there is a depth of strategy and skill to it. You need to be aware of your teams strengths and weakness' as well as your opponents and play the game accordingly. The controls couldn't be any simpler. But it will take a few games until doing the moves that make up the player control become second nature. There are two basic camera views to choose from. Sports and Arena view. Sports view is wide angle view that gives you a good view of the overall arena but with the sacrifice of the incredible action and deeper graphics that the game offers. The Arena view is a just behind the player in a 3rd person view. This view really puts you in the action and allows you to take in all the great textures, lighting and hitting that goes on. This view takes a lot more practice to get comfortable at but the payoff is well worth it. Despite one review earlier you can simply press the right trigger button to swing your view directly to the disc or the opponents goal if you are already holding the disc. If you want you can even hold this button in most of the time and you will always be aimed at the disc or the opponents goal. You can also use the D-pad to change your teams overall strategy to 1 of 5 settings on the fly. Full defense, mostly defense, neutral, mostly offense, full offense. I am constantly changing this during the game. If 1 or more opponents are 'locked down' for a few moments I will quickly switch to full offense to take advantage of the situation as an example. The graphics are very well done. They may not be HALO 2 quality, but they get the job done. 5.1 sound helps put you right in the middle of it all. You can hear the hits and taunts all around you. Lots of options to play the game you want. From turning on/off passing and shooting guide lines to power-ups to game length to turning off the lockdown option so you can beat the living hell out of anyone that dares to get in your way. There is even a multi-disc option! System link up to 8 XBOX's! The only 2 major cons to Deathrow are no online play. And the only option they left out of the game is an on/off for the profanity. Yes Deathrow has profanity...A lot of it!!! But not only is it in their to add flavor to the game, it actually has strategic use. For example; You can taunt the goalie until he comes after you allowing a teammate a clear shot. If the goalie is a lot bigger than you taunting is the clear option. Not trying to go toe to toe with him. So this is a title best not played around the kids. There are some teams that speak in alien tongues so you don't actually have the profanity if you need to play with the kids. I can't say enough about this game! If you like high action games where skill and strategy make a huge difference on whether you win or lose you can't go wrong with Deathrow. Deathrow may not be for everybody. But it is an incredibly entertaining well thought out game. If you have a few friends to play this with, you better have a lot of drinks and snacks on hand because you will be at for a very long time. =)

If you want to imagine deathrow, think of a rugby game gone WAY out of control. Although looks can be decieving, the true purpose of this game is that you have teams which must score a certain amount of points, you have 13 teams to choose from and they each have their own goal for wanting to win. What makes this game unique is that the alterior way of winning is by kicking the [crude] out of all your opponents. There arent any rules, so u can clober them senseless, or just knock them down so you can score a point with "rings" that you must carry to their goal. If your looking for a storyline, as with most fighting games, there really is none. At best this game is a kick the [crude] out of the other player before he can score on you, but with multiplayer coming soon and the fact that u can import your own music does add to the blend. When it all comes down to it, this wont bring any new people to fighting games, but it will be a great treat for those who already like those types of games.

You don't have to be a "gamer",
This review is from: Deathrow (Video Game)
i Just want to say that i'm not a "gamer" nor am i a sports fan. Those two things are used to describe this game too much. That you have to be a gamer to be able to enjoy it, or a big sports fan. So this goes out to all those people out there who are just looking for a cool game to play. Deathrow is extremely fun. i Got it quite a wile ago, and i'm certainly not bored with it yet, nor expect to be. If you've read anything on the game, you know it's a futuristic sport, where you score on the other players goal, but it's also a fighting game, where to get the disk away from the other team, you get to punch, kick, and do some really amazing grabs and throws. i Do admit that to learn to play well enough to play on anything but the lowest difficulty setting, you do have to play and practise, but it's so much fun, that you won't mind. Plus you'll be earning credits wile practising, so that as you move on in the conquest, you can unlock more players, teams, arenas, difficulty settings, and something really crazy and fun, multi-disk, where you are playing with three disks instead of one. This game is very fun to play with your friends, you can play cooperatively, or against one another, or to play by-yourself. The AI of the game is hard enough where you are very challenged playing alone. i Would like if there were a Deathrow II, because though i still have fun with this game, it would be great to say, be able to play the Angels in conquest mode and get them victory over the FirstBlitzers, or play the multi-disk in conquest mode, and of course to have different new amazing teams. i Just think there should be a sequel. So, this game is awesome, it's probably not so expensive since it's been out a wile, and you'll find yourself unlocking everything, and then wanting to start all over again.

Deathrow- Ultimate Frisbee meets WWE,
By Kberg (ATL, GA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deathrow (Video Game)
When I first purchased Deathrow i knew little about it. It was really cheap at the store i went to and looked decent so i picked it up. When i got it home and started to play I was very suprised, the game was very very addicting. It took me about 3 or 4 matches to get used to the controls and the camera movement (which is one of the games only faults). Basically the idea behind Deathrow, is that you control a team of Blitz ball (the deadly frisbee game played in the future) players and "level" them up and can give them steriods and whatnot, but your main mission is to win the Blitz Ball tourney. This game feels like playing Unreal Champion ship's bombing run. You have to go get the "ball" and run around with it trying to get it in the other person's goal. However unlike Unreal you can still fight with the ball. All in all i would say that Deathrow is a good addition to any XBOX fanatics collection, another plus is that Deathrow is generally very low priced in retail due to its limited fan base (this is becuase of all the violence and strong profanity).

This is by far one of the best xbox games ever made. It is the most overlooked game ever as well. It features insane sports action along with fighting and platforming. The swearing is abseloutely great, and uterly hilarious to listen to. As far as fighting goes, the violence is very mild. I don't know why everyone says it's ultra violent because it isn't. The violence is similar to a fighting game such as Virtua Fighter 4. The blood is not a big deal either. You see little drops of it but it's definately nothing to get bent out of shape about. The ability to play with friends on and/or offline is excellent. Online gameplay is via gamespy tunnel, which means xbox live is unneeded. Overall, I really like this game, because it requires a lot of strategy, and keeps the adrenaline pumping from beginning to end. A must buy.

I agree with the other reviewers, possibly one of the sleeper hits of the year. If you like swearing, gratuitous violence, and fast paced action, this is your game. They should have made it an x-box live game.

I spotted this game about three weeks ago, I'd never even heard of it before!Boy, am I glad I picked it up! It's turned out to be the biggest surprise of my collection. Yes, you can even use your own ripped tunes for the soundtrack! The game is basically a basketball/lacrosse/frisbee game straight outta hell! It's a no rules, no refs, & no holds barred bloodbath from start to finish. My sole complaint is that I can't make my own team. I would have loved to have made a team based off of Houston (Rollerball). Buy this game! It's definitely worth the price tag!

Best damn game out there!,

This review is from: Deathrow (Video Game)
I just bought my XBox and was looking for some good games. I went to a site that rated them and found this one on there w/ a 9.6 out of 10 rating. So I went around to various places looking for the game, nobody had it. Found a recon one online and bought it. Just like other reviewers say about this game, once you start to play...you CAN'T STOP! This is truly one of the most addicting games I have ever played. The best part is when you completely wipe out other teams that are "bad ... Marines" or "Jail hardened convicts", etc. One note, LOTS OF FOUL LANGUAGE! Not for the kiddies.
