For five years, Elise Kavanagh and James Faulkner have policed relations between Heaven, Hell, and Earth with blood and blade. They're notorious as heroes and killers--the greatest demon hunting team in history. But they're getting tired of fighting.

Now a Goddess of Death is driving the world toward destruction. When her doomsday clock reaches twelve, the barriers between Hell and Earth will be ripped away and bring humanity to extinction.

The clock just struck nine. The world is running out of time.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Death's Avatar is a gritty urban fantasy novelette of approximately 50 pages (15,000 words) featuring flesh-hungry demons, a goddess of death, and more butt kickery than you can shake a sword at.

About the Author

Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I write urban fantasy and paranormal novels as SM Reine. I collect swords, cat hair, and typewriters (which I do use for writing!). It's a good day when those three things have nothing to do with each other.

If you would like to know the instant my next book is available, you should enlist in my Army of Evil! I send out free books a couple times a year and we have a WICKED cool secret handshake, but you'll have to sign up to learn it. ;) Check it out -- eepurl.com/eWERY

A few fun facts about me:
- The #1 song on the day I was born was "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley, which means my life is a Rickroll.
- I have three black cats and one black dog, but it's not an obsession, I swear.
- I am a full time writer these days, which means I will never wear a pair of heels to the office again. Viva la sweatpants!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome prequel June 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Death's Avatar takes us with Elise and James on their mission to stop the apocalypse. An ancient clock that counts the hours to midnight and the worlds end has been activated, each hour bringing it's own horrors -- mind you the hours are not literal.

I loved to read about what Elise and James were doing before the happenings in Death's Hand and what eventually lead to their retirement. The story flow is pleasant and it's guaranteed Reine quality. We also get a small peek to another kopis and aspis pair.

Even though this is a prequel to Death's Hand, it's optimal to read it after you've read the first book -- you'll lose some of the mystery if you start with this one. But if you're unsure whether you would like the series or not (you will, if you like urban fantasies), by all means, do try out this first. You'll love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun to read.. impossible to put down! August 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've now read all of the descent series that Ms. Reine has finished writing, I find them intriguing, fun and almost impossible to stop reading. This author is very good at "keeping you hanging" wondering what will happen next especially between Elise and the other characters (I would say people, but more are demons, angels and witches than people). really the only thing I can say with conviction about this series by this author is WRITE FASTER PLEASE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Into to the series August 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Death's Avatar is a wonderful novella which introduces you to a world of kopis and aspis (sword and shield in Greek). A world where demons lurk and someone has to be there to take them out. In this story the clock is literally counting down the end of days and it takes a pair like no other to stop time. Elise is the warrior, a woman like no other who will quietly kill with nary a sound. And at her side is the equally strong and talented magic welding James, a man who can heal or hurt with his spells. They are bound in a way no married couple can be and together they take the reader on a non-stop journey to try and stop the unstoppable.

SM Reine does a great job here, drawing you in and then holding you with the story she weaves around two characters you can't help but like, even if their actions are hard and bloody. A great introduction to the series, it will leave you wanting more although the story wraps up and doesn't leave you hanging. And thankfully - there is more.
