This review is from: Deathstroke, The Terminator: Full Cycle (Paperback)
"Deathstroke the Terminator"... with a name like that, you'd better be able to back it up. In the trade paperback DEATHSTROKE THE TERMINATOR: FULL CYCLE, Slade Wilson does exactly that, leaving a trail of broken bodies in his wake. It's a quick read by Marv Wolfman and Steve Erwin from the very early `90s that features Slade once again paying the price for his past sins. Everyone thought his son Grant, aka the Ravager, had died in Wolfman & Perez' New Teen Titans, but Deathstroke is now faced with someone wearing the Ravager's togs and making his life miserable. Is it his son, returned from the dead? Or something worse? Only a chase through Europe and the US will provide him with the answer.

This trade collects The New Titans #70 and DTT issues 1 - 5. The first story is not actually related to the above storyline, but it's entertaining in its own right. Erwin's pencils are very good, matching the superb covers by Mike Zeck. If there are any problems with this book, it's that Wolfman tended to let the story get away from him in places. There are too many random peripheral characters to keep track of, some of which don't seem to be connected to the story (and seriously, do we really need two different characters with diagonal scars across their faces?). Furthermore, when the Ravager's identity is revealed, all I could say was "huh?", and even Slade's reaction captures the absurdity of the situation (as if Wolfman is saying to the reader "yeah, I know, but it was the best I could do"). Don't get me wrong: it fits, but Wolfman can do better. Still, this is a worthwhile read for anyone who has an interest in Deathstroke - just be prepared to do a bit of searching, as it's out of print.
