This review is from: Debating Moral Education: Rethinking the Role of the Modern University (Paperback)
This is an excellent edited work unraveling layers of the debate regarding the place of moral development and civic education within the college environment. Kiss & Euben have thoughtfully arranged the chapters so as to outline the problem, while bringing a variety of viewpoints. For example, the chapters include what I like to think of as the 'Battle of the Stanleys'. A chapter from Stanley Fish who finds no place at all for values to be present in the academic process, is followed by one from Duke University professor, Stanley Hauerwas, who addresses Fish's reasoning on every level. Blum's great chapter on multiculturalism is featured in the second half of the book and is accompanied by intriguing perspectives of several other contributors. I would highly recommend this work to anyone researching moral development or student development in higher education, as well as to any college administrator. Well worth the read!
