This is utterly Precious!,

This review is from: Debbie Does Dallas (2002 Off-Broadway Cast) (Audio CD)
I bought this because I enjoy Sherie Renee Scott's performances in "Aida" and "The Last Five Years." This is one of the funniest recordings I've heard. Don't be mislead, I think this could hardly be considered a musical, aside from the few songs that are actually sung, I would think of it more as a play with music - and the occasional sung song. This is part of the charm, however. The cliche cheerleaders and football players are hillarious to listen to. Be advised, it is based on a porn movie, so there is a lot of things that could make it uncomfortable to listen to in mixed company, but it's humor and naive charm, make it worth while.

This recording is fantastic. I've a collection of over 300 Theatre Cast Albums. And this, by far, is very original. Definitly not something for children, while not explicit, the references to sexual acts are pretty thinly veiled. There are a total of maybe 4 actual songs on here. But, the spoken word is fantastic, and the visuals you create with your mind are even more amusing. The girls, which are totally believable as a group of not too bright, but sexually charges adolescents speak in a group voice, with a Valley accent, that's just too funny. You can't help but laugh. And the men, which are never the focus in the type of movie this is based on, come through as unimportant bystanders that just help to move the action along, but still show some small glimmers of personality that make you laugh at the genre of adult movies. All in all, this CD is a humurous romp through the sexual discovery of an 18 year old girl pursuing her dreams. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys hearing something new, different, and that will certainly make you SMILE, if not LAUGH OUT LOUD!!!

I saw the show and loved it but I couldn't imagine how they were going to turn it into a CD because there isn't enough music to make a full CD. So what they did was to create a very very funny comedy album full of scenes, songs, sex and karaoke (if you can believe it) The CD is 74 minutes and is a complete listening experience. There is also a surprise bonus track called The orgasm medley that has to be heard to be believed. It is hilarious. The songs are better on the CD than in the show. They have a South Park feel to them and they are very funny. Sherie Rene Scott has one of my favorite voices anywhere and she gets the opportunity to show off all she can do and she does it great. I would reccomend anyone getting this CD if you want to giggle and blush and have a really great time. Oh, and the artwork has a centerfold of Sherie as Debbie it is worth the price of the CD (if you know what I mean)

Hysterical, Great music, and Sherie Rene Scott,

Sherie Rene Scott, it doesn't need to be said....she's amazing. She's the best talent on the broadway and offbroadway stage. She is Debbie. The songs are hysterical. With almost the entire show on CD. Absolutely great. A great theme song recorded by Sherie Rene. With all the great numbers, some are extended. Sh-K-Boom, just hasn't had a miss, and I don't think they can with the talent they invest in. If you haven't heard of Sh-K-Boom they make rock stars with awesome songs out of broadway stars. Listen to Sherie Rene's solo CD or Adam Pascals, also they put out Last Five Years. Debbie Does Dallas is an AMAZING CD. Buy it.

Doing Debbie is a Delight!,

If you are looking for a recording with thought provoking, philosophical, or insightful lyrics, then Debbie is not for you. If you are on board for a fresh, sexy, and fun romp, then by all means buy this recording! Anyone who has seen and enjoyed the show, will love to relive it on CD. Although not as funny as the LIVE version, Debbie is still a delight. The Cast works together like a true ensemble should to bring you a taste of what the show has to offer. It's naughty, witty and at times tasteless, but anyone who can't appreciate the vocal stylings and humor of Sherie Rene Scott is missing the whole point of the show! Don't take yourself so seriously and you will enjoy "doing Debbie" as much as I have!

As a musical theatre connoisseur, this just doesn't cut it for me. There's not nearly enough songs to even really qualify as a musical, just a bunch of underscored dialogue. It's funny to listen to but not worth repeated listenings. Sherie Rene Scott is amazing though, as usual.

Majority of the songs have no actual substance, but besides the few gorgeous melodies Sherie Rene Scott sings with such oomph, this cd is jampacked with dirty jokes and nothing but. ...
