darling Debbie's debut on Dot!,

This review is from: Debbie (Audio CD)
Debbie Reynolds never set out to become a musical recording artist - quite the contrary. Even her movie stardom seemed to come out of nowhere (she was signed by MGM after competing, as a dare, in a Miss Burbank pageant). Reynolds starred in some of MGM's sunniest musicals, including "Two Weeks with Love", "I Love Melvin", "Singin' in the Rain"; married handsome crooner Eddie Fisher...and then in 1957 came "Tammy and the Bachelor".
In the adorable, hit romantic comedy, Reynolds sang the wistful theme song, "Tammy", and created a Number One gold hit single in the process! In 1959 Dot Records signed her up to create her very first solo album, which is what's showcased on this budget reissue from Hallmark. Reynolds' singing was never especially powerful or precision-trained, but it had lots of heart and sincerity behind it. "Tammy" isn't included on the DEBBIE album, but you'll enjoy the vivacious Reynolds as she swings her way through such numbers as "Love is a Simple Thing", "S'posin'", and "Time After Time". There's also her misty, romantic "Moonglow" and "The Blue Room" to savour. Relax and take stroll down memory lane with Debbie Reynolds' classic debut album. |
