Excellent account of Eli Whitney Debevoise's Firm,

This review is from: Debevoise & Plimpton: the Autobiography of a Law Firm (Hardcover)
Debevoise & Plimpton: The Autobiography of a Law Firm is an excellent corporate history. It does a fantastic job of capturing the founding of the firm by Eli Whitney Debevoise and William Stevenson and covers the expansion and growth of the firm into the global powerhouse. It needs to be updated since it is pushing twenty years old. The firm celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2008, but decided to do a film instead of another written account. My favorite moment is Eli Whitney Debevoise's defense of Agler Hiss during the post war hunt for communists. That being said, Debevoise's time as chairman of the Alien Enemy Hearing Board in New York was also fascinating. |
