Deborah Gibson's Best Work,
By Tommy Palces (Philippines) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deborah (Audio CD)
This time on her 6th album, Deborah Gibson shines as producer and musician on her first independent release after a string of mainstream-pop type releases (check out: Debbie Gibson, Greatest Hits). Deborah wrote all 12 tracks on the album which deals on joys and pains of relationships in a very mature level. Stunning ballads such as "Naturally", "I Will Let You Go", "Where I Wanna Be" and "Nobody's You" showcases Deb as an artist. Fast songs includes: the vocally-enriching "Only Words" -pop version, the earthy type called "Moonchild" and the Sandi Patty inspired -"Butterflies Are Free". Gone are the days of heavy dance production of past albums, but here's a bonus track, the Dance Edit of "Only Words" and the not to be missed 1997 version of her 1987 hit, "Only In My Dreams" both remixed by Junior Vasquez! You can also check out the import CD called "Moonchild" which is also available here at Amazon, is also the "Deborah CD" same songs but has two bonus tracks which showcases her Broadway vocals via the Funny Girl songs.

This is my favorite Deborah Gibson cd and it happens to be my favorite cd of all time. I truly love this cd and find the music and lyrics truly magical. As I listen to this cd I feel as if I'm taking a look into Deborah's heart and soul. For an enjoyable cd I recommend this one.

HER BEST ALBUM!!!,
By Richard Carnegie "Richard Carnegie" (Grand Rapids, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deborah (Audio CD)
This album is amazing. Every song soars vocally and has emotional content behind the fabulous voice and excellent musical arrangement. The only quam I have about this album is the duet "Cry Tonight." Not only do I not like the song, but the other woman's voice is obnoxious. This song and the remix of "ONly in my Dreams" should have been left off this album. Other than that it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. You'll love it!! Her voice has never been so beautiful.

Personal Best,

This is Deborah's "Pet Sounds", her most intimate and personal work, yet with all the great hallmarks of her early hits. It's unfortunate professional reviewers automatically dismiss her as a teen queen has-been without really listening to the music. In a world moved by soul and substance Deborah would have the success she deserves.

PERFECTION,

for whatever reason, deborah is kept a bit on a back burner in america. i don't know how to explain it, and i don't have any advice to her to stop it.... but the whole thing just doesn't add up.
she's an incredible artist. she is a brilliant song writer. - honestly, an intelligent, beautiful, so many times; close to perfect song writer... and one hot woman! that said... let's review "Deborah" or "Moonchild." you pick. you can call the album either. "ODE TO A WOULD BE LOVER" the song is a show-case of her flawless song writing. her voice possibly can't handle the chorus, if i had to give it some sort of criticism, that would be it. but the song is so damn good that it's easily forgiven. "MOONCHILD" hmm... this song reminds me of "Naked." her newest release. i don't even know why, but i put the two songs together. her voice is steller here. it's a rebelious, slightly strange, earthy tune. it's hot. "ONLY WORDS" this song is complete perfection. the lyrics to the vocals to the music. i hope that she's proud of her abilities. she should be. she deserves much more respect than she gets, but i digress... i love it. "NATURALLY" i would have said this song was filler, but apparently it was a single? you can see her song writing talent here. i wonder if she shouldn't just write that musical she keeps teasing us all with? she clearly could do it. "NOBODY'S YOU" if i have one complaint about deborah, it is that i think she doesn't always use her voice the way she should. this song is great, but then you get to the bridge, where the music soars perfectly and her voice comes in strong and assured. i've rarely heard her voice like this, and she slams it. excellent song. the emotion is apparent and moving. "CRY TONIGHT" (duet with anna-jane casey) the ladies sound beautiful. the song will tear you up. beware "WHERE I WANNA BE" don't even kid. here she hits damn near close to perfection, again! it leaves you questioning the music industry in every way shape and forum. silly fools. "BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE" what an incredible talent. she is a song writer. and she is a wonderful one. "GIVE ME YOUR LOVE" "you should move because you're wanting to, not because i fly. can you only view your dreams when you're up there in the sky?!" again, the woman hits it. over and over she hits it. this song leaves you jammin. you get caught up, and just can't stop. can't get enough! - and that's what it's supposed to do. slammin "JUST WASN'T LOVE" i'd rate her up with dianne warren on just having the ear for a perfect pop song. i'm assuming this is more filler for her - and her filler is even good =) "I CAN'T" a super different sound for it. it's sensual and hot. her voice wraps around this one like a blanket to keep it safe and strong. this one would've fit perfectly on "MYOB." "I WILL LET YOU GO" a beautiful mature sad song. full of positivity and strength. it's who she is, and it reflects. "ONLY WORDS (DANCE EDIT)" the song was pure perfection in it's original state. it was fun to begin with, and here, it's just good times. here it stand, regardless of the recording industry, proud and perfect, yet again. "ONLY IN MY DREAMS '97" i guess this was for the fans? um, thanks, but... why? come out with a remix cd. "deborah" or "moonchild" or whatever, doesn't really require this to be here. "DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE" & "PEOPLE" added benifits. people is great, but it's "Don't Rain On My Parade" that makes even me question why i question her vocal ability. the woman has got it. she does it great. you can't deny it. you really really can't. ONE GUN SHOT AND BAM!! to sum up; i don't need record industry validation. i'm with deborah till the end. when you're good, you're good. i'm not going anywhere!

Real Class,
By
This review is from: Deborah (Audio CD)
Deborah really reaches her prime on this album. I've often thought that "Think With Your Heart" was her best work. But I think her voice was even more mature and smooth on this album. It's difficult for me to critique the songs individually, because each one is really well done. This CD just radiates class and sophistication.

One of Deborah's best!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Deborah (Audio CD)
I would rank this CD as my second favorite of Deborah's (the first being "Think with Your Heart"). Knowing what my choice would be, you probably know that I enjoy her ballads! I do think there are several great songs on this album including "Only Words", "Naturally", "Where I Wanna Be", and "I Will Let You Go". "Where I Wanna Be" really stands out because it is a new sound for Deborah. "Only Words" is a nice dance tune and the remix will make you want to dance! Deborah has grown as an artist and, though many people refer to her early albums, I am impressed with her current writing and style.

This album is a turning point. She balanced her music with an inspired voice; complete vocal reserve when needed. It caters to wide range of audiences, and gives listeners a chance to see what broadway sounds like in subtle and evocative way.
