More About the Author

Mark S. Hankins (1962- ) was born in Tampa, Florida, a fourth-generation Floridian, graduated from the University of Virginia and the University of Florida School of Law, lived and practiced law in Gainesville, FL, Tallahassee, Denver (where he earned an LLM in Taxation) and Miami, and returned to the Tampa Bay Area in 2002 where he operates Florida Incorporators, Inc. an online incorporation service. Having worked as a collections attorney for the Florida Department of Transportation in Tallahassee, he began researching debt collection from the consumer perspective in 2003 and intensified his research with the objective of writing a book starting in 2008 as he became aware that the U.S. faced an unprecedented financial crisis. His first book, "Debt Hope: Down and Dirty Survival Strategies," is designed to fill a void in the financial self-help literature by providing in-depth and up-to-date information on topics that other books only touch on in passing. As the number of unemployed and underemployed Americans continues to grow and as banks seek to shore up their balance sheets by ratejacking and fee harvesting, consumers need to know all they can learn about effective countermeasures.

THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT TO BUY! I give this book 10 STARS even though only 5 stars are available here on Amazon! There are many books and scams out there when it comes to credit card debt, debt avoidance, and debt settlement (I've reviewed, read, and almost fell for many of them! Don't suffer like I did for three years trying to research your way out of the "cage and schemes of collection" that you may have been bamboozled into! Just get this book, all the best answers to your questions are here in "Debt Hope" You will not regret your purchase one bit! This information is PRICELESS when it comes to dealing with the frustration of debt collectors! Why Mark Hankins does not have his own radio show like Dave Ramsey is a complete mystery and must be some sort of glitch in the matrix, or shall we say "Debt Matrix"! It really is a Debt Matrix and let's face it... The creditors and debt collectors have the system rigged in their favor and they intend to take you for all you've got! And they will, if you are uninformed! This book is chock full of "must have information" everybody struggling with debt needs! What was most helpful in this book is that the author does not sugar coat the situations you might encounter and tells you "point blank" exactly what can happen if you do this, or do that, and are going up against collection agencies and law-firms in the Debt Matrix! The author also tells you what your best options are in each circumstance he describes, and completely "spills the beans" on all the debtors secret weapons (you can use to your advantage), and all the debt collector tricks you might encounter so you can be ready with your own personal arsenal of firepower to defend against the collectors when are on the attack and making your head spin!Read more ›

Mark's book is very timely and also practical for today. If you are experiencing financial distress, I highly recommend this book. It is not just another pie in the sky financial help book. He gets down and dirty to help the common person find a solution to their serious debt problems. More than a book, it is an investment.Debt Hope: Down and Dirty Survival Strategies

This book has greatly helped me understand the way that the whole system works, and who really benefits from the entire credit and banking system that we have place here in America (it's not me, the consumer.) Its extremely important for people to know the truths and misinterpretations of the laws and loop holes that are present and the rights of the consumer in any of the described given situations. This book goes into detail about how to take your life back and get on top of the debt situation, and most importantly, that you aren't alone and you aren't helpless.

This book was really useful to me, to help me understand what the banks can, and cannot legally do.

I was heavy in real estate, and have been wiped out. To add insult to injury the banks have been ruthless in trying to squeeze the last bit out of me. This book provided me the knowledge I need to make EDUCATED choices.

DON'T just roll over!!

The don't expect you to fight back.

99% of people just cave in, and get the default judgement against them. I got Bank of America to settle for 20%, and then they went back on the deal. (bunch of dirtbags!). I am looking forward to my day in court where they are expecting me to just hang my head and agree to pay them whatever fees they "make up".

Are they in for a surprise!!

Follow Mark's strategies and you have a great chance of playing the "game" with these debt "vultures." He will guide you every step of the way in an easy to understand way and even provides sample letters to help you with your replies to collection agencies.

This is an excellent book to get the inside scoop of how debt collectors go about their business. It discusses a wide array of debt issues such as bankruptcy, foreclosure, debt collectors, etc. It is a bit detailed and sometimes difficult to understand due to the nitty-gritty details of how debt collectors work and how the court system works. There are a lot of legal terms that are difficult to understand for the lay person. However, it is very reassuring to know the procedures and possible outcomes from debt collectors. It takes away a lot of the fear and apprehension a person has when he doesn't know what to expect. It is a resource that will be very useful to go back to on a regular basis as one is confronted with various financial issues. Well done. Highly recommended.
