Book Description

October 1985
Ten-year-old Justin finds it a pain to live in a computer-controlled house, especially when the system starts malfunctioning, until several big events change his mind.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6 Nine-year-old Justin hates the computer called ROVER that controls the entrances and exits of the Alexander home, operates the appliances and monitors the activities of the children. The plot centers around his gradual acceptance of the computer when it saves his life, provides answers to his math homework and enables the family to have a special Halloween party. Meanwhile, some neighbors begin to take excessive interest in ROVER and behave suspiciously, finally threatening Justin and his sister. D'Ignazio's "Chip Mitchell" series (Lodestar) incorporates computers and mysteries, but this exploration of the computer nursemaid is a different tack. Children who are interested in computers and fantasy will like this one. Sarah Berman, Tempe Elementary School District, Ariz.
