Editorial Reviews

Better known for his works for orchestra or solo piano, Claude Debussy also composed a wealth of beautiful chamber music. This disc featuring the Prazak Quartet and the Kinsky Trio Prague (and invited guests) offers a selection of six works, ranging from the Piano Trio No.1 to a fascinating chamber arrangement of the always popular Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un Faune. This audiophile quality multi-channel SACD from Praga presents these works in the best sonic quality possible.

Beautiful surround recording, beautiful music. The famous Prelude for the Mid-Afternoon of a Fawn is scored for an eclectic group of musicians instead of an orchestra. The 1920 transcription is so good, hearing it is actually a bit disappointing - it sounds a lot like the regular orchestral version. I was expecting something more unique.

The translated liner notes are hilariously inept - the spine even names the label as "Praga Digitals". Someone really needs to have a heart-to-heart with this translator. However, you don't buy music for the packaging, you buy it for the music, and this disc contains a marvelous hour of music which can be well-appreciated on a decent system.
