Debussy's music is not meant to be performed with exaggerations, as many other pianists do in their recordings of his music. Haas offers what is on the page and does it beautifully. The playing is also, from a technical aspect, absolutely perfect. I cant find any "Teutonic" qualities as the other reviewer said. Instead I found much tenderness and subtlety as there should be. There only bad quality I could find is with the recording. Since it is old, from the late sixties, there is a noticeable hiss, especially in the quieter passages. It is, as with the case of all Philips CDs, slightly expensive for the amount of music, but nonetheless still a great purchase. This is a must buy. I only lament that this, along with his equally great recording of Ravel's works, is all there really is from Mr. Haas.

I first bought Volume 1 of two CDs and after spending many delightful hours listening to music that speaks of everyday things and things enjoyed in the wide open and on journeys in a joyous mood - and incredible pianistic demands - I rushed to buy the second Volume of two CDs, and was not dissapointed. Volume 1 is selectively the better known of Debussy's music but Volume 2 is a worthy support. One could believe it would be possible to listen to this music alongside reading but it becomes impossible to do so. The music is enthralling. One of my happiest buys.

One of the most fascinating satisfactions the wonderful world of music always offers us,is its relentless ability to surprise us again and again.

Just two days ago a great friend and lover of music made me aware of this legendary performer. Possessing an unsurpassed pianism, which can create and recreate those bodiless and evanescent atmosphere of Impressionism fundamental musical key, Haas, the best pupil Walter Gieseking had ever had, looked forward to a promising future that one fateful October 11, 1976 was denied in that freak accident the car that took the race (as well as with Dino Ciani in 1974 and Bruce Hungerford in 1977).

This album is an invaluable testimony about this piano genius who at his 45 years still had much to say in music.

I enjoyed this CD and would recommend it to everyone. I particularly liked the Children's Corner suite. It arrived as advertised.
