Yves Saint Laurent...what else can be said? Even after his death, Saint Laurent is still influencing fashion. Debut 1962 captures the young Saint Laurent on the cusp of international fame and stardom. Having designed the Trapeze dress that turned haute couture on its head and forever changed women's hemlines and attitudes about style and dress, Saint Laurent made his entrance into the world of couture as an apprentice to legendary designer Christian Dior. When Dior died in 1957, Yves Saint Laurent found himself, at age 21, the head designer of the House of Dior. His spring 1958 collection almost certainly saved the enterprise from financial ruin; the straight line of his creations, a softer version of Dior's New Look, catapulted him into the high fashion stratosphere.
In 1962 Saint Laurent launched his own line of couture and the rest is history. Debut 1962 is a wonderful collection of photographs that shows the designer in the early days of his design House. He is young, he is beautiful and his determination is apparent in every portrait. Fans of YSL should pick up a copy; for all Fashionistas, it will be a great addition to your library.

not detailed enough to be a deep read but not big enough to be a coffee table book, yet still manages to be an overall charmer.
most ysl books that were published after his death tend to linger on proustian references. the idea of yves' extended physical suffering from cancer coupled with the anxiety and proust can seem overly dramatized. this book gives a nice rounded somber view of ysl while still keeping his human characteristics intact. i wish this book was printed in a4.
