This review is from: How We Got Here, The 70's, The Decade That Brought You Modern Life, For Better or Worse (Hardcover)
The 70s are not usually thought of as having been as revolutionary as the 60s, yet in many ways, Frum argues convincingly, they did more to shape our world than the 60s did. From their volitile politics to their social reengineering, the 1970s are shown to be the years in which much of the outline of our modern lived reality was drawn. Alternating between (often absurd sounding, and always colorful) stories on the smallest scales and the broad sweep of events with special emphasis on what Frum argues these trends were ultimately ABOUT, "How We Got Here" tells its reader just that: how the antipenultimate decade of the Twentieth century connects back up with how we think, what we feel and why we frame and approach today's world as we do. A must for any serious student of American history!
