Duran Duran, was the eighties, the fashion, the attitude, the videos. They are best known for their music from the 1981 to 1985 period with the Original five, Andy, Simon, John, Nick and Roger. This features their biggest commercial hits, the great chessiness of Girls On Film (still my favorite Duran song to this day), the driving Hungry Like the Wolf, the teeny bop favorite Save a Prayer, the funk of The Reflex and the driving A view to a Kill. BUt I Want to say something in my opinion Duran has been BETTER after this period, their albums more thoughtout and better written. Just look at this compilation, 3 of the better songs on Decade are after this period. "Notorious" is a brilliant piece of funk, "I Don't Want your love" can have you dancing all night and "All She Wants Is" has one of the coolest synths I've ever heard. Duran is more than just style. Buy the stuff after 1986, you won't regret it!!

If you want to get into 80s music, forget all the other bands and focus on Duran Duran. They have a talent that is un-paralleled, and this shows on this hits album.

If you don't know what album to get, but want to get into this band, buy Decade, as it has every single hit they've ever recorded - "Rio", "Hungry Like The Wolf", "Girls On Film", "Save A Prayer", "A View To A Kill", "The Reflex" and "Wild Boys", amongst some other fantastic tunes.

Pop-tastic, in the 80s way.

This is strange for me to rate, as I am generally a rocker at heart, but the 80s are my weakness, and Duran Duran are my biggest weakness from that time. And yes, I am going to see them in about three months and can't wait.

But seriously, this album is absolutely AMAZING, and everyone must own it who likes this type of New Romantic music.

The reason I say it's better is that it has the FULL VERSIONS OF THE SONGS INCLUDED, except edits "Hungry Like the Wolf". My friend has "Greatest", and I listened, and was horrified to see that "Rio" is cut long before it really ends. Anyway, this compilation is awesome! From their first song, "Planet Earth", all the way to the so-called "embarassment" "All She Wants Is", this album shows their changes, whether it was through the line-up, or emotion. I'm also happy to say that "A View to a Kill" is included, which I always blast. WORTH BUYING, IF YOU CAN FIND IT!

This is a good collection of DD's best songs from the eighties, though it does leave out The Chauffeur (which even Greatest didn't have) and New Moon on Monday along with other songs that I liked that didn't do as well. In a way it's better than Greatest because it leaves the songs alone rather than butchering them to fit a time limit. Except for "Hungry like the Wolf" which only has one "Hungry like the wolf" in the instrumental break. The CD also leaves out two of the best DD songs, Come Undone and Ordinary World, along with quirky hit "Electric Barbarella". But if you like their 80's songs best, this is great.

I'm realistic. I expect that about two minutes after this is posted there will be a non-helpful vote. I'm not paranoid. I just think it's weird when I post a bunch of Duran Duran comments (or edit them) in one day and about ten hours after they're up (or maybe even less time) there is a non-helpful vote for each and every one of them, even the obscure Arcadia CD. Is it just me, or do the DD-haters need to get a life?

I love new wave 80s music and this is a great one. These are their best songs ever. Some were known in the US while must were known in the UK.

Planet Earth: I think that was best known in the UK.

Girls on Film: Best known in the UK but I think it was know a little bit in the US.

Hungry Like The Wolf: Their best known song it the US.

Rio: This was known very well in the UK but was also known a little in the US. This CD has the full version of the song.

Save a Prayer: I think best known in the UK.

Is there Something I should know?: Best known in the UK but was a VH1 hit in the US.

Union of the Snake. Known well in the UK but was a radio hit in the US. This is one my favorite of theirs.

The Reflex: A big hit for them it the UK but I think it still was a radio hit for them in the US.

The Wild Boys: Best known in the UK if I'm right.

A View to a Kill and Notorious were best know in the US. Skin trade, I don't Want Your Love, and All She Wants Is were hits in the UK but I think they were known a little bit in the US.

Well that's it. I enjoy these songs very much and I think their very good. Long live the 80s.

Although everyone has its own opionion I believe that this compilation is worths the buying.

DD made history. This is not an opionion. This is a FACT. Then you may say if you agree or not and that is correct. We all have opionions. But FACTS are FACTS.

Now, further to that, if you wanna take a junmp into DD history I wuld probably reccomend the laytesta Compilation, that is DURAN DURA GREATEST HITS. It contains all major hits until 2000 (medazzaland cd included).

But htis compilation is nice too: songs from DURAN DURAN, RIO, SEVEN and the RAGGED TIGER. Believe me: they made pop music change. Forward.

In a decade known for novelty acts and one-hit wonders, Duran Duran was the real deal. Other bands from the 1980's may have gone on to bigger and better things (c.f. U2, REM) but no group better captured the zeitgeist of the decade. As such, Duran Duran's first "best of" compilation is aptly named.

"Decade" has become marginalized by later releases, and thus is only available via import or the cutout bin. At this price, it's probably not worth it - unless you're a Duran completist. The casual fan can make do with the more recent "Greatest" while the diehard fan should go for "The Singles (1981-1985)." But there's something pure in "Decade's" approach that the later compilations lack.

"Decade" includes most - but not all - of Duran's top hits from 1981-1988. A later vinyl era comp, there are some regrettable omissions, most notably "New Moon on Monday" (as well as some fortunate omissions, like "Meet 'El Presidente.')

Duran resists the temptation to include the obligatory "previously unreleased" track that every other band uses to push "best hits" sales. Unfortunately, that means there's nothing extra here for the hardcore Duranie, who had to wait until "Singles 1981-1985" for such rarities as "Secret Oktober" and "Faster than Light."

It seems every compilation review focuses on what you don't get. What you do get is a solid best-hits compilation, pure and simple. For the diehard Duran fan, it's probably superfluous, unless you're an absolute completist. For the casual Eighties fan, it's essential. But at the hefty import price, consider your other options first.

While including most of their earlier hit singles, this album misses out on what made Duran so good, their artfull, well crafted and poetic album tracks, and even some of their best singles. Pop fizz is here but not the involving depth of songs like the Chauffeur, the Seventh Stranger, New Religion and Sound of Thunder. If you don't have any Duran albums and would like to check them out, start with a proper album like Rio, and don't get the wrong idea about them.

I've had this compilation ever since it came out several years ago, and think that it's well worth the money spent. Duran Duran created some great music during the '80s. Recommended.

My best friend gave me the cd as a christmas present and I religiously play it whenever I clean. I hate cleaning so I really need some inspiration! The music brings me back to the simple life of big hair/multiple colored hair, too much makeup, neon clothes, leg warmers, head bands, wearing socks with your shoes, michael jackson's face before his 878th plastic surgery and when mtv had little talk and all music. It's great to feel 14/15 again at least a couple times a month! I really miss the three taylors because they all contributed their own style to the music. I see this cd as a tribute to the REAL DURAN DURAN!
