terrible follow up to black-trash,
This review is from: Decade (Audio CD)
i was looking forward to the new sticky album after his first solo album "black-trash" which was a very good album, and had alot of consistancy. but after one listen of "decade" i was already bored, and thinking what had happened to the old sticky. i mean some of his lyrics are still very good and ill give him that, but the production is absolutly awful. i dont think theres even one good beat on this album, and even the guest appearences are lame. at least on black trash there were good appearences (i.e raekwon, redman, dave hollister). if your a hardcore onyx fan then this album may appeal to you, but if u didnt like the last onyx album "bacdafucup 2" then dont bother with this, and in my opinion this is a complete waste of money. my rating would be 1.5, just for the fact there are some good lyrics.

Dissappointment,

I've given this album alotta' tries but it's just not any good. It's completely devoid of Sticky's grimey style vocals and instead has these commercial street trash songs. The beats, as mentioned above, are garbage. They're something you'd expect fabulous or ludacris to spit to. There's one song that has alotta' features which is pretty good but still sticky's outshined by another rapper in that song, maybe X1 I'm not sure of his name. Either way, after Blacktrash sticky had become one of my favorite rappers, second only to the JediMindTricks crew. But after this, I'm thinking he just lost it. went the way of DMX after It's Dark and hell is hot. Save your money, buy a RassKass or JediMinds cd.

Sticky Fingaz was a dope MC in the 90's. Most of all the ONYX material is worth checkin out and as far as solo efforts, his first and Fredro's first were both excellent releases. This LP makes a great coaster for your studio. I was extremely let down by 85% of the material on this record. The beats were boring and average at best--The lyrical content I slept through. I just couldn't vibe w/it, for having so much respect and love for his work in the past for droppin ill tracks this was a huge let down.

One word.....GARBAGE,

His first album(BLACKTRASH) was amazing. This album is complete garbage compared to his first one. Decade should of been called decaying. Everything is just wack. Beats, lyrics.....everything. Don't get this album expecting the same material on his classic "Blacktrash". You will be very dissapointed.

Sticky's follow-up to "Blacktrash",
By Crazy Jim (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews

While his solo debut was a classic album, this sophomore album from Sticky Fingaz will have a lot of people dissapointed. Not nearly as bad as some reviewers make it sound, this album seems like a commercial attempt at times but there are still hints of Sticky's old style. The first single, "I Can't Call It" features an annoying vocal sample from Missy Elliot and is certainly not the type of track that would please your average Sticky fan. A similiar track, "I Don't Know" is done a lot better as Sticky and cousin/Onyx partner, Fredro share vocals with a sample that sounds like Busta Rhymes single or something. While it isn't great, this one would have made a better single than the Missy one, Sticky sounds more like himself and it is at least a decent track but there is no need for both songs to be on the same album as they generally have the same concept. You get a little bit of "Blacktrash" Sticky with songs like "Suicide Letter" (wrongfully identified as Track #15, it's actually #16) and "No More". The appearance of Omar Epps on "What Chu Here For" and "I Luv Da Streets" makes for a nice return of Stick's inner-voice from the last album but if only he didn't try to rap. In fact, could someone grab him, Eddie Griffin, and the rest of these actors who try and rap and just drop them off a cliff already. All in all, this album is not as bad as people think but such high expectations have kind of hurt it. Similiar to the way "Tha Doggfather" was panned after "Doggystyle". Well, actually, some of the tracks on DECADE deserve to be dissed because they honestly are wack. Not as bad as most albums that came out on D3 Entertainment like Dogg Pound's "2002", M.C. Eiht's "Underground Hero", and that God-awful O.D.B. album. In all fairness, this is probably half of a good album. More time should have been invested because there are some decent tracks on here but a lot of this stuff is just filler.

What has happened to the old Fredro and Sticky? they ain't the same no more. They've the lost the grimeyness from Onyx. They gotta go back and try to make it underground again and get back the old stuff.

blacktrash was dope as hell and i was waiting forever for this album. of course, it sucks. I dunno what sticky was thinking, but he shoulda kept the same beats as the first instead of going the club-commercial-ass hip hop crap beats that are playing on the radio. w/e, dissapointment. check kirk jones, that ones dope. leave this where it belongs, in its original packaging box, taped and sealed..

With Sticky being one of my favorite emcees, due to his ability to keep you interested by what he's gonna say next, I expected alot from this album. Shut Em Down was a classic, and every Sticky verse on there was murder. Black Trash was a breath of fresh air, seeming to stand alone in a commercial world of garbage. It stands in my collection of favorite all time concept albums, alongside Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, Sgt Pepper by the Beatles, and Deltron 3030 by Del and Dan the Automator. Decade, however, falls into that heap of garbage called commercial rap music. Choruses with no meaning, no inspiring verses, and Sticky just not getting nasty like he usually does.
<li>There are some bright spots on the album, notably the intro where Sticky shows his love for Jam Master Jay, I Love Da Streets feat Omar Epps and a Dre-esque beat with smooth lyrics, Bad Guy, a smooth song featuring a singer who sounds like Dave Hollister, I Don't Know feat Fredro Starr, a unique song with a children's vocal sample, ala Get Out by Busta Rhymes, Just Like Us, a great beat with dope verses by Sticky, if only not for the chorus. The last track is hands-down the best, with some dancehall-style rap beat that works to perfection. Reminds me of Ghetto Starz with Mr Cheeks from Shut Em Down. Basically, skip songs 3-5, and 8-13 if (a) you want to retain respect for an ill emcee (b) you want to hear a good Sticky Fingaz with 8 tracks. If these songs (1-2, 6-7, 14-17) were released as an EP, this CD would be classic. |
