Progressive Death Metal.,

4.5 stars. This CD is a blast of Progressive Death Metal that sounds longer than its running time would suggest(40:27). The reason for this are all the shifts in tempo, some songs at first sounding like Frankenstein's Monsters, sections of songs sewn together to complete a whole creation. Repeat spins reveal that while these section shifts are sometimes jarring they are powerful nonetheless. There are grooves aplenty, my favorite moments, but there are guitar solos here and there as well. There is voice distortion, snarling vocals besides, yet there are no lyrics provided with this product so deciphering the lyrics is a chore. I even checked out their web site but there are no printed lyrics there, either. It's too bad, really, because the titles of these songs suggest intelligent lyrical content. The drumming here is solid, with expected double-bass kicks and appropriately timed cymbal crashes, but the driving force here is the guitar work. It is energetic, melodic, grooving, forceful, progressive, and altogether creative. It is easy to see that this CD is going to be more and more interesting the more I play it.

Pretty Awesome...a little short though,

9 songs, and one filler noise track...so 8 songs. Ugh! Why do bands do that?My first time listening to this, I really didn't care too much about it. There were some great riffs, but it was so "progressive" that it didn't flow...so I got bored. But the more I listen to this, the more I like it. It's got a good sound....crunch Bloodbath guitars with some melodic thrash thrown in. All in all, if you're looking for a new melodic death band to check out, give this a whirl. It's unique enough to explore, yet still thrashy and heavy enough to mosh too. Good stuff.

My first foray into the remarkable, dark, chaotic sound of Centinex was about a week ago with the "Hellbrigade" album. My reaction to that CD was nothing short of a full-on orgasmic endorphin rush when I was assaulted with an aural attack of epic beauty and brutality that stirred the deepest, darkest emotions of my unconscious and left me feeling like Satan himself had reached into my chest and started massaging my heart. My reaction to "Decadence" is quite similar. The rhythms, the blast beats, the melodies, and the vocals are all right on target. Their sound and their lyrical capability are unmatched in their genre, which is difficult to discern in itself because they oscillate between the death and black metal genres seamlessly. I came across this band quite by accident (I thought the cover art on "Hellbridage" was f**king sweet), and I hate to think what would have happened had I not taken a chance on that CD. If you are an extreme music fan of any kind, buy this CD, buy "Hellbrigade,"..hell, buy their entire catalog. It'll put everything else in your catalog to shame.
