Confused Plot and Little Conflict, December 14, 2011
This review is from: Decadent Master (Masters of Desire, Book 2) (Paperback)
I'm not all together sure what ultramale is, but the guys in this book are vampires. Is it a vampire romance/erotica book? Not so much. There are allusions to them being vampires throughout, and they're called "Brothers", a la J.R. Ward, but there's no vamp biting action until the very end of the story, and I mean the last few pages. To me, this is a problem. Vampirism in romance isn't something you can just add, like an ex-girlfriend or a preference for pizza. It seems odd that the males being vampire wasn't a much bigger deal.
The book seems to be more BDSM erotica, but it only really works on that level with the one Master named Zane, but he's made out to be the bad guy in the story because he's too rough on the subs. I didn't think he was rough and I liked his scene with Wynne. Dierk and Rolf (can I tell you how much I hate these names!) are brothers who fall for Wynne, but Dierk can't have her because he's forced to be with another female, and Rolf isn't who Wynne wants. She wants Dierk.
Wynne is pretty lame, but Dierk and Rolf have something hot about them. And Master Zane, of course, is made out to be hotter than hell. (What is it about the name Zane?) The problem is that at no time did I really care who she went with. She's supposed to be a shy thing, but she strips down in a dungeon the first time she's told to. Now that's submissive! But it's not terribly interesting. And then when she should keep her mouth shut and be a bit submissive around Dierk's king (remember, they're vampires), her big mouth is yapping and bitching all over the place.
Confused? Well, the book has very little conflict other than people wanting what they can't have, so after a while, I was confused too. Wynne is new to the BDSM scene, and it seems her submissiveness turns all three of these guys on. The problem is that none of the sex is very erotic, and the rest of the story is just a bit flat. And although the book gives a warning that this is a "sexually explicit" book, I found it a bit tame.
Perhaps I'm just getting jaded with this genre.
Overall, Decadent Master, which by the way seems to be a misnomer for the book because I can't figure out which man was supposed to be decadent, is an ok read, but not for the money I paid for it. For that, I expect more than a 236 page book that lacks conflict and gives me lukewarm BDSM and sex.

Sadly lacking..., February 20, 2011
This review is from: Decadent Master (Masters of Desire, Book 2) (Paperback)
This book is lacking in almost all areas. The plot is so thin as to be practically non-existent. The development of the D/s relationships and personal relationships between the characters is meager, at best. The only reason I gave the book 2 stars was due to Wynne's first scene with Master Zane where she learns something new about herself. That scene depicted what I feel is the goal of a healthy D/s relationship, and I was moved by it. Despite that, I would not suggest that anyone waste their money on this book.

entertaining erotic vampire romance, February 27, 2010
This review is from: Decadent Master (Masters of Desire, Book 2) (Paperback)
After her fiancé ends their engagement because she has vanilla sexual tastes, Wynne Fischer decides to try something radically different to prove to herself she is much more than a one act trick. She visits the infamous S & M bondage club Twilight seeking something special that will excite her libido to an out of control frenzy.
Masters of desires vampires Rolf and Zane introduce the obvious naive human to sensational dominance. However, one look from vampire temporary club manager, Rolf's brother Dierk puts her in heat. To his shock the master dominator wants more thane a night or two with the tyro submissive as he is jealous when others sniff around. He claims she belongs to him even though his king orders him otherwise.
This is an entertaining erotic vampire romance in which the bondage scenes easily supersede the paranormal elements. Although the plot is much thinner than Dierk's full blooded lower head, fans who enjoy a heated frolic between a Decadent Master of desire dominant and his rookie but quickly turning into a debauched submissive will appreciate Tawny Taylor's erotica.
