Totally Underrated Album, a rare gem,
By Jimbles "\m/" (Tampa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Decameron (Audio CD)
Back in 1992 I read about Epidemic's Decameron in Guitar World under the "Metal Detector" column. The album recieved 4 stars out of 5 without much of an explanation as to why. (Probably due to the Metal Detector columnist being a moron, we are talking about a guy who gave Death's "Human" 3 stars)
So naturally I special ordered from my music store the cassette of Decameron. (Yeah I'm old there was no internet) Epidemic later put out "Exit Paradise" which was cool but did not touch the sheer force of Decameron.(Which possibly could be due to guitarist Guy Higbey leaving the band at the time?) HOWEVER This album smokes, and the sound is a type of thrash/death metal with heavily distorted guitars, and bass, with vocals similar to Chuck Schuldiner's ala Death's "Human" time frame. Maybe with hints to Sepultura's Arise period. I loved, and still love this album as it was one of the catalysts to me wanting to play guitar. The song "Factor Red" being an oustanding song where the bass sounds as if it's ebowed with heavy distortion throughout most of the song. And cool lyrics to boot such as: "Retinas burn, as my eyes raise towards the dying star Half devoured sky bleeds red, the death of a star begun. Billion times five, inner orbits set to solar flame. One with the star they die, melt to core, no remains." it doesn't get cooler than that, I think all fans of early 90's post thrash(ex: Pantera, Exhorder, Sepultura)should pick this up!!! I love this CD, it's awesome. Just remember though, Exit Paradise=No So Great..., Decameron: Totally awesome.

Nothing special,

Tight, but boring. Could be better with a different singer. Overall they're not bad but after a couple songs I got bored. Even after hearing the whole CD, I didn't find one track that [I really liked} .
