4.0 out of 5 stars An overlooked title that deserves more attention., January 3, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Decapattack (Video Game)
The reason the graphics aren't that great is because this is a very old game, released in 1990. The reason the names are silly is because... it was released in 1990. Radical.

DecapAttack is a side-scrolling 2D platformer with a loose Halloween theme. You play as a mummy named Chuck D. Head who... um, chucks his head at things. But that's only if you get the right power-up - his standard attack is to headbutt people with his second head - the one buried in his chest.

DecapAttack features 7 levels, each with three stages. Thw first two stages are simple reach-the-goal affairs. The third stage requires you to find a treasure item and defeat a boss before leaving, so you need to search the game world carefully for the treasure to avoid backtracking.

This game features a wide selection of goofy-looking enemies, some pretty good music, and several creative boss fights (Look out for the boss of Level 5 - he's the hardest thing in the entire game). One interesting feature unique to DecapAttack is the ability to collect, save, and use various potions, which grant invincibility, stronger jumps, more powerful attacks, and so on. You can also collect golden coins, which are used in a bonus game after every level that offers the oppurtunity to nab extra lives and some more potions.

DecapAttack's difficulty is fairly high, but with smart usage of potions and some classic videogame knowhow, the average player should be able to at least reach the Level 5 boss. And if you can beat that guy, you can probably finish the rest of the game.

If you own a PlayStation 2, consider Sega Genesis Collection. DecapAttack is included on that disc alongside two dozen other games.

2.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating Game makes a Frustrated Reviewer, July 20, 2011
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Decapattack (Video Game)
First of all, this game isn't too original as other reviewers may have commented. Whenever I play it, it reminds me of monster party, but more cheesy. The controls on this game are more slippery than a mucus covered hagfish while ice skating on your toenails. The attacks that this "Max D. Cap" guy does are ridiculous. He attacks by punching out his stomach, or whatever the hell that is he shoots out. This game also is very difficult. You get 3 continues, but this game requires for you to need more lives than that regardless of gaming skills. Overall this game is rubbish, Saying that it's good, is like saying playing Modern Warfare on a Pong console is cool. Im a major fan of classic 8 and 16 bit games, and the graphics on here weren't too bad, but not appealing. It's not fun either because while you're playing it you could think of a million platform games that surpass Decap Attack.

ALL I'M GONNA SAY IS... I'D PLAYED THIS GAME EVERY TIME I WENT TO MY EX-GIRLFRIEND'S HOUSE, AND I WAS ADDICTED! TO ME IT'S UNIQUE, FUN, CHALLENGING TO SOME, AND ONE OF THE COOL GAMES THAT CAME OUT IN 1991. I TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT THE BOSS ON LEVEL 5, AND REST... I'M SURE Y'ALL GONNA LOVE PLAYING IT ONCE YOU PASS THE 1st LEVEL! OVERALL I'M GIVING IT A+.
