When I first heard about this series of novellas a couple of months ago, I was so excited! Not only would I get a new story every month for a year, but some of my favorite authors would be writing them! Win, win!

In A December Bride, Denise Hunter takes readers back to Chapel Springs, the setting of her newest series, and introduces them to Layla and Seth. Despite being a huge fan of Denise's books, I wasn't quite sure how she was going to pull off this story centered around an engagement of convenience. I should have known better, though! I was absolutely delighted with this sweet, romantic story! Denise does a great job of introducing the main characters, sharing their history, developing a great deal of tension, and weaving together a story that had me sighing in the end. Unlike many novellas, I actually felt like I got a complete story that was paced well and came to a satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend A December Bride! [5 stars]

I received a free copy of this book from Zondervan in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Their first date was spontaneous---neither had a date to a particularly awkward wedding. But what started as a whim has turned into an accidental---and very public---engagement announcement, leaving Layla O’Reilly fit to be tied. Under normal circumstances, Seth Murphy---rich snob and best friend of her cheating ex-boyfriend---would be the last person she’d want to date, much less marry. But the news of their upcoming nuptials has convinced a big client that Layla may be high-society enough to work for his agency---which could put her fledgling home-staging business in the black.Seth Murphy’s pronouncement at the wedding seemed crazy to Layla, but he’s loved her secretly for years, even when she was dating his best friend. He’s sure she’ll never forgive him for the way he hurt her back then. But maybe, just maybe, he can convince her. When Layla agrees to keep up their engagement farce until she’s landed her client, Seth couldn’t be happier. The race is on.For Layla it’s the chance to save her career. But for Seth, it’s the chance to win her heart. If they can make it to the end of the year, maybe she’ll be his December Bride.

I love short stories like this one. It made me smile throughout. Short and sweet but really enjoyable, perfect! Seth (Murphy) and Layla are 2 characters you see from their points of view and it really makes the story come together. Although, I had to reread the first few pages again, I had to make that connection of Seth = Murphy. Although Seth is portrayed as a rich snob, I don't think he really is. Both of course come from opposite sides of the railroad tracks so to speak, classic love story of boy rescues girl. So much fun, how Layla comes to realize Murphy isn't playing, he really likes her!!!

Cute story, easy to read in one sitting, will have you in the mood for love! I received a copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest opinion.

What a fun trip back to Chapel Springs, Indiana for the holidays!

After Layla's date to her ex-fiance's wedding cancels due to strep throat, her only other male option is Seth--her former fiance Jack's best friend who introduced Jack to his bride while engaged to Layla. Though giving Seth any attention whatsoever grates after he ruined her future, she agrees to attend the wedding with him, where he announces their engagement. Trouble is he hasn't asked Layla to marry him yet. But when the bride is tossing as many condescending remarks at Layla as the rose petals lining the aisle, and Layla's dream client is interested in her work now that she's "engaged" to Seth, what's a girl to do but play along?

I loved revisiting the characters from Barefoot Summer. This is quick yet satisfying and entertaining read. I highly recommend it to warm up your cold winter night.

I enjoyed this book very much and actually finished it in about 2/2.5 hours. It was a very easy read, enjoyable characters, and fun Christmas whirlwind romance. Kind of reminiscent of a Hallmark Christmas movie ... actually making this into a Hallmark movie would be a good idea! If you want a relaxing, inspiring read; then you need to check this one out! :)

First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Denise Hunter and her publisher for sending me a copy of "December Bride" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.

“December Bride” by Denise Hunter is a charming novella. When Layla’s wedding date falls through at the last minute, she must take desperate measures. She can’t show up without a date to her ex’s wedding, and she can’t avoid the event since he’s marrying her cousin and her whole family will be there! So she accepts the offer of Seth to escort her. He is not only the best friend of Layla’s ex, he’s also been secretly crazy about Layla for a long time. So, when a few bold words pop out at the wedding insinuating that Layla and Seth are getting married, Layla opts to continue the fiasco because the lie has opened the door to relationship with a potential client that wouldn’t give her the time-of-day previously.

This spunky novella made me laugh and sniffle and consider God’s purpose for marriage and relationships and how His timing truly is perfect.
