December Stillness,
By Gina (Streetsboro, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: December Stillness (Paperback)
I really enjoy reading Mary Downing Hahn's books. This book gives a good introduction for teen readers to understand just a little bit from different points of view from war veterans. But I'll admit the book did move a little slower than her other books. But other than that, it was another good read with a surprising ending and touching chapters that made you keep reading.

December Stillness,
By Mizzy Hoopie "Missy" (Southern Cali) - See all my reviews
This review is from: December Stillness (Paperback)
I thought this book was a wonderful story of a girl-Kelly-who, through some investigating of a vietnam vetran, found that there are reasons that people are having trouble groing on with their lives after the war. It had a good plot to it, and, though predictable in a way, kept you interested in what would happend. Also, it was a very emotional book, because when Kelley finally begins to understand why Mr. Weems-the vietnam vetran of their town- is the way he is, she begins to understand her dad and find why he is the way he is. She did not know how effecting the war was on men who went. I thought it was a wonderful book, and though i've read it i would read it again any time.

The book, December Stillness is one of the best out of my two favorite books that I have ever read. I mmust tell you that reading is definetly not my favorite thing to do at all, but when I read a book and like it, That means that it is really really good! I think this book is best for teens, and young adult readers but should be read by all. It is a sad, touching book that can capture many peoples hearts and should not be ignored! You should read it. TRUST ME!! ITS THE BEST!!!!!!!!

December Stillness is a great, easy-to-read, story of a girl who wants to get to know a veteran for a school paper. The book is great!!! You can get inside of Kelly's head and feel what she feels. When with her frieds I could totally understand what was going on in her mind. Bottom Line: Great book, must read!

The most touching book i've ever read,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: December Stillness (Paperback)
December Stillness is one of the best books i've ever read. It is sad and could easily happen to anyone. This is Mary Dowing Hahn's best book. I'm not a major fan of realistic fiction but this book i could not put down. Mr.Weems who is a vietnam vet. had no friends and wanted no friends but was stumbled onto a girl named Kelly. She Eventually wanted to be her friend but he refused her. This book is an award winner and should be read by all who enjoys a great, unpredictable and sad novel. It touched my heart on how Kelly tried to help Mr. Weems and he refused her. All she wanted was a friend. I think this is a great teen novel. It has a great story to it and also a great lesson.

I loved the book December Stillness. It can show you what it is like to be hurt by the wars that go on. I think Kelly really tried to help Mr. Weems, a vietnam veteran.

bringing the war home,
By A Customer
This review is from: December Stillness (Paperback)
Why do some veterans return home and rebuild their lives while others bring the horrors back and relive them in their waking and sleeping hours? 14 year old Kelly sees her Vietnam veteran father a worldy success and contrasts it with Mr. Weems, a homeless, emotionally disturbed Vietnam veteran. Kelly wants to help Mr. Weems but he resists all such assistance -- and her father thinks she is wasting her time. Kelly's father does not like to talk about his war experiences and is not sympathetic to the plight of Mr. Weems. The ending of the book is so poignant that I'll stop my review here!

December Stillness,
A Kid's Review

December Stillness was a touching book. Mrs. Hahn made it easy for me to put myself in the character's positions. I think December Stillness would relate to all teens; even for kids who hate reading.
