LOVE this album,

I found this when I was looking for a nice rendition of the Cherry Tree Carol. Loved her voice, so I ordered the CD.
I must have listened to it 20 times. And I still listen now even though it is not Christmas time. AWESOME!

Fantastic Christmas Album that you can enjoy all year,

It's a fact. Christmas albums make lousy Christmas gifts. You give the album a couple of days before Christmas and then the person has to put it up until the following Christmas season without having time to really enjoy the present. However, when you've got an album like this, you can feel good about enjoying it in April or August or whatever season you like. This is a fantastic record. Zig's arrangements are very well crafted and thought out and of course her voice and playing are stellar. She does a lot of rarely performed Christmas carols (not a jingle bell rock or rocking around the christmas tree to be found)and even a couple that I was not aware of. The standout is the polish carol done on the last track. The album is worth owning just for that. Also notable is the one original track, Christmas in Vermont. It's melody is very lovely and the lyrics make me want to experience one Christmas in New England, rather than our balmy Christmases in Dixie.
When I worked in a record store, the big joke was when an artist put out a Christmas record it was to fulfill a contractual obligation because one can toss out a record of covers guaranteed to sell with little or no thought put into it (read: Kenny G, Mariah Carey, et. al.). It is really refreshing to see the craftsmanship go into these songs. Even the medleys which I generally abhor are very well done on this record -- she connects songs with similar music vocabularies rather than the common subject connections. You will enjoy this record.

A friend just gave me this CD for Christmas and I love it. The songs are beautiful. If you like Amy Grant, I think you will like Diane Zeigler's album Christmas in Vermont.

I received this as a gift a couple of years ago. What a great voice! Certainly folksy, but not so much that it's hard to listen to - singing along is easy! Highly recommended.

I first came across Diane Zeigler a few years ago when I was searching for a song about motherhood as part of my daughter's class assignment. On her website at that time, you could hear her new Christmas album and I absolutely fell in love with her title song "December in Vermont." Actually, I love all the songs on this album and it makes a terrific Christmas gift for friends. I particularly like its folk quality and the use of guitar. Every song is well-executed, and the arrangements are always interesting. More than anything, she has the kind of voice that reminds you of honey...so smooth and easy to listen to.
This is my absolute favorite Christmas album and I highly recommend it! |
