4.0 out of 5 stars DECEPTION FOR PROTECTION
THE DECEPTION is my first Catherine Coulter novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad
This was not the best book that I have ever read. It is, however, one of Ctherine Coulter's better books. The plot was predictable and the characters were typical, but it was a good book to read on the beach or at the pool.

THE DECEPTION is my first Catherine Coulter novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I's the story of Evangeline aka Eve, who was kidnapped along with her father and forced to spy on her deceased cousin's widower - for the life of her father. She was given a plausible ruse as a recent widow with no funds, but she hadn't counted on her cousin's widower, Richard Clarenden, his handsomeness, his wit, his generosity or his well-known sexual prowess. As their feelings for one another deepen, it becomes clear that Eve's false portrayal is failing and that those she cares most about are in grave peril. This book also delves into the lengths of criminal activity and treason those in high levels of power will go to achieve their end. THE DECEPTION is well written and intense.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Type of Heroine, August 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Deception (Paperback)
Although I read Ms. Coulter's novels "voraciously," as she would say it, this is by far my very favorite (I've read it at least 6 or 7 times!). It's probably because Evangeline has a will of iron and an unbreakable honor and love for those around her. She puts herself at the bottom; she will not allow Houchard to hurt her father or Richard's son, Edmund. This is perhaps why Richard falls for her. The suspense is fabulous and you just want her to tell him her devaststing secrets the entire way through. Like I said, it's my absolute favorite. READ IT!!

4.0 out of 5 stars lot of suspens, and surprises, September 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Deception (Paperback)
Once I started I couldn't stop. This book gives a great lot more intrigue than the usual historical romance would give. Evangeline will, make you laugh, make you mad, and make you sad; in just this one book. And the duke is just so different from the usual aristocrat, so expressive, that you'll want to keep on reading hours after hours. This is one of the best of Coulter's books I have read to this day.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER WINNER!!, October 6, 1998
This review is from: The Deception (Paperback)
Yet again, Catherine Coulter has done it. I especially enjoy how she brings characters into her books from other books. It lets you know what happaned after their 'happily ever after '. I couldn't put it down. The part where a murder occurs and its ramifications had me in tears. You actually feel so bad for Eve. This is absolutly a book you Don't want to miss!!

As always Ms. Coulter has written a fantastic story. This book was so good I couldn't put it down; I stayed up late into the night to finish it, only putting it down to run to the restroom. If you like romance novels, you'll love this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story, great characters; Who was the proofreader?!, September 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Deception (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this story. I found the characters to be interesting and easy to get involved with. I enjoyed the action and suspence. But where was the proofreader? There were some many typos! There were verb tense errors, missing quotes so that it was difficult to know when you were reading dialogue vs. narration, and even mixing up character names. I found these errors threw my reading fluency way off, which was frustrating. So I give it a 4 star, good story, but fire the proofreader!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Evangeline was one of Coulter's best heroines., July 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Deception (Paperback)
The Deception was by far one of my favorite Catherine Coulter novels. I have almost all of her books and I can truly say that Eve was a breath of fresh air compared to Coulter's other heroines. This book was full of intrigue and the two main characters were likable.
