Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Top-notch architect Simon Bennett dies in an accident that only his daughter, Jill, suspects was actually murder. When someone tries to kill her, too, she's forced to accept the help of her ex-husband, former homicide investigator Dan Santini. As betrayals and dirty secrets surface, the pace moves along smartly in this romantic suspense by the author of Suspicion. Heggan throws in enough twists to keep readers guessing, without losing sight of the central romance. Jill is also an architect, and her attempt to reestablish herself and the family business following her father's death provides an interesting subplot. Most appealing, however, is the relationship between the well-developed hero and heroine.

Review

Christiane Heggan is back with another suspenseful tale of romance and revenge! Romantic suspense is alive and well and readers will want to make space on their keeper shelves for Deception! A successful architect dies and his death is called an accident. Everyone believes that- except Simon Bennett's daughter. Jill Bennett isn't ready to write off her father's death as a tragic accident. She begins to suspect her father may have been murdered. The only one who can help her is the last man she wants to see- her ex-husband Dan Santini. Dan left New York and his job as a homicide detective to pursue a new career as a college professor in Chicago. Simon's death brings him back to New York and into the company of his ex-wife. Dan wants to help Jill and hopes that being with her will get her out of his system once and for all. The love they once shared was damaged by their differences. Damaged, but not destroyed. Now older and wiser, Jill and Dan hunt a killer and face their long buried feelings for each other. Christiane Heggan never fails to deliver a fast-paced and thrilling story. Deception is no exception. Jill is a strong, independent heroine and Dan is her perfect match. The secondary characters are well drawn and the reader will be guessing who the killer is right up until the end. Ms. Heggan is as talented as they come, weaving romance and suspense into one tight and twisting plot. My only complaint is that I have to wait so long to read her next story! Hold on for the ride of your life! Christiane Heggan will dazzle you! A sexy, suspenseful tale as only Christiane Heggan can deliver it! If you like romantic suspense, Christiane Heggan is a name to remember! She will leave you breathless! Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 110198 Literary Times, Inc. 5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, February 28, 2000
This review is from: Deception (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book I have read by Christiane Heggan and let me tell you, I cannot wait to read some of her others. The story was so well written and the secondary characters and story lines made the book very interesting. The story flowed and the characters were some you could identify with. Everything intertwined so well the story was just phenomenol. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thriller I could not lay down, October 20, 1998

This review is from: Deception (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a new fan of Christiane Heggan but I bacame hooked on this book. Jill and Dan were great together as a team. I thought the story line was very good and it was a page turner. Jill was determined to find out the real truth even though she had to endure heart ache along the way. It is nice to see that an ex can also remain a friend and these two people needed another shot at being together after they grew up. I am now reading Suspicion and it is excellent. Hold on fans of Christiane she has done it again. I can hardley wait to turn the next page. Keep up the good work Christiane I love your work, you make many pleasant hours for me. Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars Another fine romantic thriller, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Deception (Mass Market Paperback)
In the Catskills Mountains, renowned but controversial architect Simon Bennett dies in a car crash that is ruled a tragic accident by law enforcement officials. Everyone accepts the official ruling as being accurate except for Simon's daughter Jill. She believes that the police are missing some important information and she plans to find those missing puzzle pieces in order to gain the truth about what really happened to her father.

However, Jill knows she is out of her league in trying to ferret out the truth. Reluctantly, she turns to her former husband Dan Santini for help. Dan was the superstar of the New York City Homicide department when he abruptly quit after legally but tragically killed a fourteen-year old child. Currently, he is a college teacher working near Chicago. They divorced thirteen years ago because he could not deal with her prominent family . He comes to help Jill, not knowing that what he learns could destroy the woman he still loves.

DECEPTION is a deceptively delightful romantic suspense that will elate fans of the sub-genre and propel Christiane Heggan's name to the forefront. The story line is exciting, especially Jill's uphill climb to find someone to believe in her. The lead protagonists are a charming duo, who find that the truth may be more difficult to swallow than the prevarication's used to hide it. After this novel and SUSPICION, readers will conclude that Ms. Heggan is one writer they can trust to scribe sensational story.
