"Beautifully drawn characters lead us through the trials of their relationship against the rich background of New York, London, Paris and beyond. This story has all the elements that make it a book that you don't want to put down. One of this author's best."

"Well written, this book is a terrific love story. It is set among a high class of people so we can dream a little of luxury. Good read!"

"This is a sophisticated romance that touches all the bases. The sex scenes are hot and spicy while being realistically woven into the story. We want the romance between Justine and Alex to work, while at the same time we empathize with the conflicts that threaten to keep them apart. International in scope, ranging from the Hamptons to Paris, London and Africa, this is a satisfying love story."

If, like me, you love stories set in exotic locales, this romance touches a lot of bases. The characters are beautiful and sophisticated, the kind of people whose skin you'll want to vicariously inhabit; yet, they remain vulnerable and believably human. The pacing zips us across continents as we watch the relationship develop from physical attraction into something much deeper. All in all, a most satisfying read.

Deception is a very good book. The woman is asked to be auctioned off for a charity and decides so change her name and appearance for the night so no one can recognize her. She goes on her date with the man who won and keeps with the same disguise. One back to the real world she ends up meeting the same man the same man who doesn't even realize that they have already met. This book goes through the with him not knowing until she finally tells him about it and he flips out. Finally ending in a very good ending. This book is good for people who like a good book that takes a few twists and turns.

This was an okay read. There were some things that just didn't seem realistic to me though.

Spoilers:
1) Justine used to be a model and a friend asks her to participate in this auction for charity where the highest bidder will get to take her to dinner. She decides to alter her looks so she won't be recognized so she dyes her hair red and gets green contacts. That's all she does to look different. But for some strange reason, the next time Alex sees her in her natural state, he doesn't recognize her at all. This was after a whole night of them talking over dinner. I find it a little farfetched that he wouldn't at least recognize her voice the next day - even if her hair is now blond and her eyes are brown.
2) Justine immediately falls in love with Alex after their first night in which she's in the role of "Jasmine" and to be honest, I didn't really see how she could fall for him so fast. He was a little bland and with the way he spoke, I honestly thought he was in his 40's, not his 20's. When she finds out that Alex is the CEO of the pharmaceutical company that made the drug that killed her mother, she's devastated and vows to never seem him again. And then the next day she sees him at a party and starts pining for him again. This was after 2 days of knowing him.
3) They spend a few weeks in close contact with each other while Justine works as Alex's secretary for a business deal and he STILL doesn't know she's really "Jasmine" his auction girl. Also, after they do the deed the first time, he has to go to the hospital because his wife who's in a coma (yes, he's married!) has gotten worse. He rushes to her side and she ends up dying.

Justine is a retired model who is still dealing with her mother's senseless death. Alex is the CEO of the pharmaceutical company who developed the drug that killed Justine' s mother. The two meet by chance without knowing who the other is and quickly realize their could be something between them. The story is a good read if you can get past two things. One, I don't care for books where one of the main characters of the romance is married even with the extenuating circumstances in this story. Two, for how disturbed Justine was by the pharmaceutical company's role in her mother's death, I was disappointed that Justine so easily threw her stand against them and her anger away for a handsome face. I had a tough time getting past both of these. If you wouldn't have a problem with either of these, then this is a good story worth reading.

Wow. 4.5 Stars. Justine and Alex...this book blew me away. I am usually a bit skeptical about authors I don't know but I am so glad I read this one. The plot is very unique and creative. The characters well developed and engaging. You feel everything Justine is thinking and struggling with as she is torn between finding justice for her mother and her feelings for Alex. The whole Deception is absolutely brilliant and heartbreaking when it comes out. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a more intense, grittier romance with a mix of deceit, friendship and love. Nothing really light and fluffy here.

A man bids 25K on a woman at a charity fundraiser because he is enamored of her at first sight. They go on their arranged date and they both fall hard. Of course. However when she finds out something about him that raises a concern the inevitable conflict arises: Keep seeing him or run the other way. I'm sure you can guess her decision, but here is the ridiculous part: at the auction she met him wearing a minimal disguise to mask her nervousness at being "auctioned." When they go on the date, her hair and eye color are still not her own, but the lace mask has come off, he's kisses her and partially disrobes her. When they meet a third time again under different circumstances you would think her face would be somewhat memorable especially because she is described as a great beauty.

But no.

When she next sees him she's back to her own hair and eye color and he greets her as a stranger. I know that one can be blinded by lust, but I found this little plot device to be far-fetched and a bit off-putting. Of course Justine worries endlessly about Alex finding out about her "deception."

This novel hits every possible chic lit cliche in the book while its saccharine sweetness gave me a toothache. He's a saint, she's hopelessly in love. If you want an easy read that poses absolutely no challenge to your intellect, this one is for you.
