I loved it! Deception Island is exciting, constantly moving right from the first page. As a five-time visitor to Antarctica the vivid descriptions of Antarctica and Deception Island in the novel bring back fond memories.

Deception Island combines elements of several kinds of genre literature: adventure, mystery, romance, and science fiction. It features very memorable major and minor characters and a plot that packs a wallop, particularly at the beginning and in the second half of the book. It is a "quick read" of a book with very detailed descriptions of life in Antarctica. It would also make a good movie.

I usually only read non-fiction, but decided to give this work of fiction a try. I found it captivating with well developed characters and a very interesting plot which reflected deep research by the author. For those of us who only imagined Antartica as an ice station, this mystery will inform readers about this continent and the people who work there. Do yourself a favor and broaden your horizons in addition to reading an engaging work of fiction.

This book is a great read! It kept me turning the pages - I couldn't put it down! It is filled with suspense, mystery and even romance; and has surprising twists and unexpected turns. I would definitely recommend this book - also set in a very cool location. It's a different idea for a novel, which is very interesting and refreshing.

I usually read non-fiction, as I often find that truth is stranger than fiction. But having been to Antartica, someone encouraged me to read this book. And I did. Like some of the other reviewers, I found it hard to put down. So glad that I read this book. The story would make a great movie.

I read Deception Island on some of the hottest days of the summer. What a wonderful retreat. The scenes were so vivid and the landscape so beautifully rendered that I actually started to feel chilly! The story was about far more than Antarctica, there were Nazis, bioterrorists, genetic experiments, and bodies that were not quite human. It was a great read that made me want to book the next cruise to Antarctica to learn what's really going on down in that white wilderness.
