I read it in two day, but you may not take as long with this page turner. Enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly Disappointed....., March 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Deep Deception (Urban Renaissance) (Paperback)
The novel deals with family secrets, lies, and deception as they unravel following the matriarchs death. The main characters, Veronica, Victoria, and Ramon are the children and victims caught in the middle of this deadly cat and mouse game. Their long estranged father comes back into their lives after their mother's death, beginning a domino effect that quickly spirals out of control.

The books was fast paced and held my attention, however the lack of depth given each character bothered me slightly. The only character who, in my opinion, stayed true to form was the younger brother Ramon. There were many twists to the plot as the secrets unfolded, yet I can't say they were all exciting. About midway through the novel you begin to already see the end result.

As I drew closer to finishing Deep Deception, the author did try to put more surprises, and plot diversions in, but by that time it only made an already unsettled pool, murkier, and left the reader with more a sense of let down and disappointment than a sense of anticipation that there may be more to come. It was as if the author said, okay I'll take every plot twist I know and throw it here in the ending.

Overall I would say Deep Deception was a decent read, but again it didn't leave me begging the question where is the next installment? Ms. McKinney is a very talented author. I would personally like to see a bit more depth in both character development and plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars How long do I have to wait for part 2???????, November 3, 2009
This review is from: Deep Deception (Urban Renaissance) (Paperback)
See being that I am a Tina Mckinney fan, when I bought this book I didn't read it. Because I know that reading Tina's books I can't put them down and I knew when I read Deep Deception Tina McKinney was going to do something in this book to make me mad. I am mad because I have got to wait til part 2 comes out. And trust me if there isn't one it should be. The story is based on lies, and deceit in one family who are trying to hold on to traditions pushed by their parents.

Tina tells her story of one family torn by loyalty to one another only to keep secrets of their own. I always feel like I am in the book. The title is true to it's name. You won't be disappointed she has woven her spell and it's a book you can't put down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising Revelations, July 18, 2010
This review is from: Deep Deception (Urban Renaissance) (Paperback)
Veronica is in big trouble when she starts having an affair with her boss. But the problems are just beginning when she finds out that she's pregnant with another man's child. Will she be able to break this to her husband and still keep their marriage intact? Veronica's sister Victoria has her own set of problems due to her being involved in a relationship that her family would disown her for. Veronica and Victoria will face the biggest challenge of their lives when their mother dies suddenly. Things get even more strange when their father comes back home, and he is nothing like they remembered. Time is running out, and Veronica is trying to get answers to some questions that were raised in her mom's letters...but a sinister plan may stop Veronica in her tracks.

Deep Deception is the perfect title for Tina Brooks McKinney's latest novel. This story is full of family drama and secrets. Veronica and Victoria already have their own issues, but the storyline really starts to take off when their mother passes away. Just when you think you have this book figured out, McKinney throws in a curveball that will keep you glued to the pages. The inclusion of drug cartels, federal agents, and secret identities gave this book a unique suspenseful twist. There are so many surprising revelations in this story that you will definitely want a sequel to this book. Deep Deception is another thought-provoking page-turner by Tina Brooks McKinney.

5.0 out of 5 stars She just pissed me off AGAIN!!!, January 26, 2010
This review is from: Deep Deception (Urban Renaissance) (Paperback)
Sisters Veronica and Victoria thought they had a clear understanding of who their parents were. And while they never had the finer things in life, they understood that their mother was doing the best she could in America by herself, taking in laundry to support them and their younger brother, Ramon. Over time, they had gotten used to their father's infrequent visits from their native Columbia and just understood that that was how things were. However, even from Columbia their father ruled their family with an iron fist and demanded their respect at all time. And while he may not have physically have been present, they still feared not having his approval. No surprise that fear helped to spawn secrets. But soon, due to the unexpected and shocking death of their mother, skeletons start falling out of all kinds of closets. When a man none of them recognize shows up claiming to be their father, his apparent coldness throws them further into fear, confusion and resentment. Soon, something has to give and when it does, it is in ways none of them expect.

I am a HUGE Tina McKinney fan. I love her style of writing, probably because it reminds me a lot of my own. That said, I have to say that Tina takes you there with this book. She had me reading this book when I was supposed to be doing other things, like sleeping. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The plot moved briskly along, and as someone else said, just when I thought I knew at least how one part was going to come out, she would smack you upside the head with something else. And just when I thought I had a clear understanding of most of the character's motives, they would suddenly do a 180. HOWEVER, when I finished the book I was ready to fly to Atlanta and search Tina out so I could beat her behind for leaving me hanging like that!!! She's done it to me with darn near every book of hers and I know she must get tired of feeling her ears burn from me cursing her out. LOL And while I was dismayed and upset with how some things turned out, I wanted to kiss her for the brilliant twists. Well done, Tina and if you don't do the sequel soon, I'M going to be leading the revolt to beat on your door until you get it done!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tangled Web Of Deceit, Lies, and Secrets, January 7, 2010
This review is from: Deep Deception (Urban Renaissance) (Paperback)

Tina Brooks McKinney's Deep Deception will leave readers speechless. Veronica, Victoria and Ramon were raised in a modest home. Their mother, Madre Sita, never learned to speak English and their father still lived in Columbia taking care of his elderly parents. After a very strange phone call, Madre Sita had a heart attack. Veronica, being the eldest, calls their father so that he can return to the States for the funeral. They are all excited and fearful of their father, a man they had not seen in almost 10 years. However, the man who claimed to be their father was not the person they remembered. This man spoke English, dressed well and he had a college degree.

As the three siblings tried to find out the mystery behind their father, they also tried unsuccessfully to hide their own secrets. With the unsolicited help of their lovers, Veronica and Victoria learn that their parents harbored deep secrets that could destroy them all.

McKinney has written a story that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat. Just when you think you have it all figured out, she gives you another twist that leaves you shaking your head. I am pretty sure that a sequel is in the works. This is a good read for mystery buffs.

Lies, deceit and deception.........What would you do if this was your all you knew about your life?

Victoria,Veronica and Ramon were forced to the states to have a better life, little do they know the real reason is so harm won't come they way.Leaving their father in Columbia their mother takes care of them they best way she can with the little money thats she has. When she gets an unexpected call it changes there life forever.

With them all having secrets of their own, they never knew that the people they meet all tie together and play a major part in the destruction thats going on around them.

Will they be strong enough to get through this as a family or will the deception break the close bond they have?

5.0 out of 5 stars Lies, Lies and more Lies, November 8, 2011
"Deep Deception" by Tina Brooks McKinney was a fast paced pageturner. There were so many lies and betrayal going on that you get caught up in the stories and you no longer know the truth.
After the death of their mother sisters Veronica and Victoria is left to keep family secrets a secret. The sisters must live their life as a lie to pacify their father who is returning to America to bury his wife.
As one lie is told then another, then another.
Once the deception starts to come to a head you are shocked to see just how deep it runs.
You will be left with a jaw dropping OMG!!!!!!
Tina Brooks McKinney, you have done it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL, June 6, 2011
Ok, I read the reviews before I got the book and for the life of me I do not understand how some people didn't like the story. But then again, everyone has a right to their opinion. I found this book at the library and almost didn't get it because they had it labeled as a romance novel and I don't really care for those. I picked it up anyway because I loved the authors previous books. I really didn't care for Veronica until about the middle of the book. It is just something about cheating that rubs me the wrong way. Victoria was cool I felt so sorry for her hiding who she really was. Ramon was my baby and I pray that part two reveals a twist that works out in Ramons favor (don't want to spoil it for someone who hasn't read it). I think Moses gets what he deserves and I have a feeling in part two a lot more will be revealed about Tilo and I hope it is in her favor because right now I can't stand that heifer!
