Book Description

Genre: Contemporary Menage
Series: Genetic Attraction; Previous Book: Genetic Attraction

Caleb Martin faces a life crisis -- and he’s pretty embarrassed about it. A talented soccer star, he has the chance to sign a lucrative five-year contract and be rich and famous. Two problems -- Cal is gay and signing the contract means he has to stay in the closet, maybe for life. Plus, he’ll have to spend his years diving for soccer balls when he’d like to be helping people, like the rest of his family.

A one-night stand with a beautiful man rocks Cal, but the guy vanishes only to reappear again later where Cal is house-sitting. Too much coincidence? Totally. And then a cute tomboy throws Cal’s life choices into confusion. How could he wind up with a commitmentphobic guy and a woman, especially one dedicated to work in Africa? If that's not confusing enough, he gets a big surprise in a snowstorm. Cosmic joker strikes again.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual situations, graphic language, and material that some readers may find objectionable: anal play/intercourse, male/male sexual practices, menage (m/m/f).

Putting the Squeeeee in Sequels

Romance sequels. Love 'em or hate 'em? Many readers love sequels because they're already invested in a world and its characters and want to see more and more. This is great for an author. Your readers are waiting with bated breath for your next book and new readers are likely to want to buy the previous books in the series. IF you don't disappoint them! I'll bet you can think of several big name authors whose series finally just ran out of steam. They keep writing but more and more readers jump ship as they are expected to pay top prices for boring, badly written books. That's why many publishers don't want more than three books in a series.

The third book in my Genetic Attraction series is called Deceptive Attraction and it follows (chronologically) The Scientist and the Supermodel and Genetic Attraction. (You don't have to have read those other books to enjoy it and know what's happening.) Funny, I didn't start out to write a series. I wrote Genetic Attraction as a stand-alone book. But I was lucky enough to create some very compelling characters in that first book. Even I wanted to know why and how Jake and Roan, my young scientist and supermodel, met and fell in love before they became a threesome with Dr. Emmaline Silvay. So the prequel, The Scientist and the Supermodel, was born. In that book, up pops an amazing character -- Jake's younger brother, Caleb. Cal has some great scenes in The Scientist and the Supermodel and suddenly he was crying out for his own book. Cal is the star of Deceptive Attraction, also a M/M/F ménage, but very different from Genetic Attraction. My original trio appears importantly in this book, but Cal and his two lovers, a pretty boy and a tomboy, are the central characters.

Two things seem true to me about series. First, compulsion. Writing that next book should feel compelling and important. There need to be characters crying out to be heard and stories longing to be told. If the sequels are written just because it might sell more books, readers are going to know and start to bail out.

Second, new central characters are a pretty good idea. Trying to carry a series with one central character again and again is really tough because the readers have no one else's point-of-view in which to become involved. Eventually, you know that lead character so well it can get boring. I wrote the Scientist and the Supermodel from Jake's POV. Readers have begged to see the story through Roan's eyes, but I can't do that. The love story has been told. Their story is complete. They have their HEA and I won't mess with it. I don't like sequels in which complications are introduced to tear apart two lovers that you've already enjoyed getting together. I think it cheats the readers. Roan appears in Deceptive Attraction and there is a chance he will appear in yet another book, but he will still be madly in love with his two scientists.

Yes, it's true. There could be another book in the Genetic Attraction series. There is a character who is calling my name. Want to guess who it is? He's a minor figure in at least one of the books. I'll let you know if my publisher says yes!

About the Author

Tara Lain never met a beautiful boy she didn't love - at least on paper. A writer of erotic romance, mostly ménage and male/male, Tara loves all her characters, but especially her handsome heroes. A lifelong writer of serious non-fiction, Tara only fell in love with EROM in 2009 and, through perseverance and lots of workshops, had the first novel she ever wrote published in January of 2011. After an exotic life of travel all over the world and work in television, education and advertising, Tara settled in Southern California with her soul-mate husband and opened her own small marketing business. She paints, collages, and started practicing yoga "way before it was fashionable". Passionate about diversity, justice, inclusion and new ideas, she says on her tombstone it will read, "Yes".

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great one by Tara Lain December 2, 2011
By Kel
Format:Kindle Edition
I have read just about all of Tara Lain's books and have enjoyed every one of them. Deceptive Attraction is no different. I have been excited for this to come out because I read the first book Genetic Attraction and loved it. I instantly fell in love with the characters from Genetic Attraction so I was looking forward to reading all about Caleb who was introduced in the first book.

Caleb (Cal) is a professional soccer player and loves the sport but doesn't know if he loves it enough to sign a contract. He feels like he has a greater purpose to serve than to just play soccer. So when he goes out to find some companionship he is dumbfounded when he meets Eli. But is it a one night stand or something more? How does Eli feel? Ms. Lain does a fantastic job with expressing the emotions of all the characters. That's what I love best when reading any book is when an author takes each main character and tells what they are feeling from their own point of view.

Cal is watching his brother's house while he is away. Enter Angel who is a woman with a air of confidence that makes you want to be just like her. Cal never realizes that he could be attracted to a woman until he meets Angel. Their banter back and forth is amusing and flirtatious. I really enjoyed reading the scenes with them together. But Cal is still thinking of Eli and how there was just something about him.

As the story progresses, there are many twists and turns that will continually surprise you. You will not regret reading Deceptive Attraction by Tara Lain. It was truly a pleasant read. And it goes without saying that the sex scenes were mind blowing. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful read! November 3, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Tara Lain certainly knows how to reach out and grab the readers attention with her witty dialog and hot steamy love scenes. She manages to take us into the world of her most wonderful creations and we experience everything right along with them. From the uncertainties, to the fears, right along to the exquisite happiness that comes with finally achieving your most hearts desire.

When we first met Caleb or 'the Runt' in Scientist and the Supermodel I fell in love with him and my heart went out to him when his current lover broke up with him. Now we get reintroduced to him in his own book and I find myself absolutely LOVING the journey!

5.0 out of 5 stars menage the way it should be! January 4, 2013
By Trix
Format:Kindle Edition
Too often in books, menage is used as an emotional weapon between characters. DECEPTIVE ATTRACTION is such a delight because Tara Lain makes these characters believable, nuanced, sympathetic people who care about (and are wildly attracted to) each other. Incredibly sensual and sweet, this story is a must for anyone interested in reading an m/m/f configuration.
