THERE WAS MORE BEING EXCHANGED THAN GIFTS!

Sir Jervis, taking to his annual holiday deathbed, demands the attendance of his family. Unfortunately, he is the only one in a celebratory mood. Daughter Audrey, a lovely widow with two grown stepsons, is in financial despair and quite unsettled by the presence of her niece Regina's fiancé, Lord Elliott . . . who in turn is aware that his betrothed is still enamored of Audrey's stepson, Larry . . . a war hero determined to win back his true love.

Of course, before everyone can be correctly matched, they must be unmatched. And somewhere between a stolen necklace, stolen kisses, and many curious mishaps, true love threatens to right all wrongs--turning the season very merry indeed . . . .

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

When the supposedly terminally ailing Sir Jervis Brougham summons his far-flung family to his country estate for the Christmas holidays, he has more than seasonal revelry on his mind. His savvy children, however, have ideas of their own; and before the festivities are over, all parties are satisfactorily paired up-although not necessarily as expected-and Sir Jervis decides to live until next Christmas just to see what happens. This traditional, lighthearted romp features some charmingly done regulation Regency characters (plus a few that aren't so typical, including a scamp of a grandson) and provides nice dialog and good period detail but few surprises. Devon (The Rogue's Lady, Fawcett, 1995) lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Review

Upon taking to his convenient deathbed, Sir Jervis sends word to his estranged family members that he desires their presence for the Christmas holiday. Attempting to convince his children and their extended families that this is indeed his final Christmas, Sir Jervis sets into motion his plan to right past rifts, and to see his ward, Miss Anne Welbourne, into wedded bliss.Alas, Sir Jervis' plans do not proceed as he hopes. His unusual family refuses to believe that he is about to expire, a family heirloom mysteriously disappears and then reappears, and Sir Jervis is presented with a hellion grandson he didn't know he had. All in all, the plans fall into comical disarray as the family unknowingly proceeds in direct and hilarious opposition to all that Sir Jervis wants to accomplish. Marian Devon takes the reader on a riotous adventure in Deck the Halls. With dialogue that is snappy and characters that are constantly performing outrageous antics, Ms. Devon assures an amusing and enjoyable read. Deck the Halls is a Christmas Regency that is sure to make the holidays sparkle!Marian Devon delivers dialogue that is witty and fun! Ms. Devon provides a wonderfully fast-paced read! Marian Devon gives the gift of love, wrapped up tight with laughter!Gerrie Shepard -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

5.0 out of 5 stars romance escapism for the intelligent reader, May 27, 1998

What can I say...as far as fun escapism is concerned this is the best stuff. Most of the Regency writers make the intelligent reader want to quit their day jobs and write Regency novels all day. You wonder where they get the authors. But this book only shows what a real master in this art can do. It's fun and funny, even dare I say witty? Enjoyable enough to read in a sitting, fun to read on a plane, and yes you can hide the cover if you want....but this book is like candy. Maybe not good for you, but in small doses brings a smile.
