This disc is solid all the way through. The first full-length effort from Wales-based The Alarm, Declaration has drive, power, passion and poetry. Songs like "Marching On" and "Where Were You Hiding When The Storm Broke" showcase the band's ability to straightforwardly rock, but most of Declaration consists of the sort of stirring anthems that they'd become famous for in their later works. Notable highlights from this disc: "Where were you Hiding," "Blaze of Glory," and "Howling Wind." You may have been passingly familiar with the Alarm in their salad days of the middle '80s, but even if you weren't, this disc is worth picking up. You won't be disappointed.

In my view, Declaration is the Alarm's best album, vying with Strength for that title. This remastered edition has the original IRS cover (at least in the picture), but it has about twice as many songs as the original mid-'80s release, including my favorite cut, "Absolute Reality." The copy I bought from the Alarm website had a different cover but the liner booklet had the original IRS picture so you could change it if you wanted.

Mike Peters said that the original IRS albums were produced differently than he would have liked, and the new Alarm re-releases are all remastered, each with many additional bonus tracks. That makes this edition of Declaration even better. The radio only played a couple Alarm songs; here are 22 contenders for your iPod shuffle, including "Howling Wind," the best hackey sack song of all time. I first heard this album..and yes, it was an ALBUM then..lol...when I was in high school in the mid 80s. A friend of mine turned me on to the band and there was no going back! They were just amazing! A few years later I went to college and they toured...and played at my school! I got the chance to see them do these classic tunes live and WOW! Even more incredible! Buy this album! You won't be sorry you did!
