I bought this product to create a paintable surface on styrofoam wig heads, and I've gotta say I'm having a blast! MagiKote goes onto the styrofoam smooth and easy with a brush, 3 coats with drying time in between and I had a nice durable, smooth surface that was ready for painting and/or mixed media collage faces. I could see using this on all sorts of porous items to get a paintable surface. It could also be helpful in smoothing out paper mâché projects.

The stuff works. Not a whole lot else to say. I did learn several things the hard way:
1. You have to do more than just shake it to mix it - you have to STIR it thoroughly before applying.
2. You have to use it in a ventilated area - it has a strong noxious chemical smell.
3. It takes multiple coats if you want to end up with a smooth surface.
4. The multiple coats add quite a lot of weight to the styrofoam object you are coating.

I am studying prop making in school and we use foam coat that can only be bought by the gallons. I looked for a cheaper alternative and found this. It does make foam a paintable surface however it does not have the same effect as professional grade foam coat. Make sure to shake the bottle well before use.
