Savior Of The Soundtrack,
By Lance G. Augustine (The Midwest, USA) - See all my reviews

Not only is "Decode" the standout song on the otherwise somewhat bland soundtrack of "Twilight" (don't get me wrong...there are a few decent tracks, just not with this kind of energy), this rocker is also one of Paramore's better songs on any album...it bests "Let The Flames Begin" from "Riot" and is reminiscent of Flyleaf, a band that takes their rock seriously.
While Paramore has always been high-energy, some songs tend to drift toward pleasing the teenage demographic...not so with "Decode", the tone and straight-ahead rock nature should help this band with their reputation for a much larger rock audience of all ages. It's not cliche' and won't get old after just a few listens...A+

A good intro to Twilight and Paramore,

I first heard this song shortly before the Twilight movie came out. Next thing I knew, I had read all the Twilight books and listened to all the Paramore CDs. (I even waited until the end of the movie to hear this song as the 'second' song rolling in the credits.
The song seems to perfectly mesh with Twilight. It is well produced and carries meshes a dark somber tone with energetic speculation. The lyrics seem to perfectly describe the underlying theme of the books.

Breaking the Code,

"Decode" is a perfect, brooding fit for the Twilight soundtrack. With its emo, goth, Hot Topic-muzak like sound "Decode" sonically describes the dysfunctional relationship of the vampire Edward and his mortal ladylove Bella. Paramore has a sound that blends Evanescence with alternative rock/pop. It's sort of like Saving Abel and Seether, but it's far superior.
"Decode" is about the inability to "read" another person. Edward, for example, is a telepath who can read minds--everyone's-except Bella's. The song has the desperation (and maybe self-destructiveness?) of the story. It's not only about forbidden love, but a fundamentally dysfunctional love. The course of true love never did run smooth.

I love Paramore. I heard this song on YouTube about 2 months ago. I fell in love. Even if you didn't like Twilight you'd love this song. I recently got my Kindle and decided to see if the Amazon music store had it for purchase. Luckily, it did. This song is almost indescribable. It's so....connective? I felt connected to it, like it was my story in a song. Hayley has a beautiful voice and the guitars are wonderful. This is my all-time favorite song!

This is a standard love song about being lost and linking someone, someone who doesn't really know you.. and lets face it, someone you dont really know yourself. We have all been there, and the singer's standard rock voice fits well with the song.
She whispers midway "I'm screaming "I love you so..." But my thoughts you can't decode" and that is the point of the song.

I was watching, or not so much watchin but listening to MTV and I hear this song and when I turned around I saw clips from the movie. I was so excited! And the song totaly rocked... which made me ever MORE excited...lol... and I'm in Iraq so getting excited about something is a GOOD thing..lol...But when I bought this album online I was iffy.... there really isn't to many CD's out there anymore where ALL the songs are worth buying, but since this is my fav BOOK and I wanted to give the CD a try (haven't seen the movie yet since it came out 2 days after I left :)... lol) But when I got done downloading it and I listened to it.... I was suprised; I love all the songs on this CD. It has a wide range of music on it. I mean it goes to House, to Rock, to a little Folk meets Alt., Classical. This CD really has it... and of course I love this song by Paramore. It has such a energy that I don't I could imagine any other song for this book OR movie. It captures the essence of both.... Not to meantion that you can relate with the song on a personal level. For a song to do that is a powerful thing...and for all that this is so far the best song of the year in my book...

Not Much To Decode Here,

I've never read, or have the desire to read Twilight, but I do know that the series has created a very unhealthy fanboy/fangirl obsession among people. I also know that at least by the looks of the movie, it has a creepy gothic tone to it, which also creepily seeps into this song. The song, sound wise drifts in and out of modern rock, and a hint of post-hardcore. In either case, it's not very original.
Sure, Haley Williams always bring an extra element with her vocals, but there's not much to love here. It's not really something you'd rock out to, sing-along to, and it doesn't strike me as brilliant. I mean, I'd be considered around the target age group, and I just don't get it. Maybe it's because I like my music lighter and sunnier. But overall, this song heavily strikes me as something I don't like, but others might. Whether you're that other, depends on your taste for the dark side, or the twilight, in this case. I also think the song is heavily geared towards fans of the book, which doesn't do people like me much good. Real Score: 2.5 |
