Decoding the Tomb, one of Bucket's best.,
By B. T. "Slim2N1" (Port Saint Lucie, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Decoding the Tomb Bansheebot (Audio CD)
Having discovered Buckethead only a few months ago, I have found myself working my way through his material (all that I can get) to the point that I now have more of his albums than any other artist's I own. Acquiring (some of it I actually got for free, legally) Bucket's music is akin to mining for precious stones. You really have to sift through some rather worthless (sorry, for lack of a better term)stuff to come up with the gems. Decoding the Tomb is definitly one of those gems. I have been listening to it almost exclusively (and I have close to two thousand albums) for the last two weeks. Prior to this I was hooked on "Peppers Ghost" a great album in it's own right, but I think this may be even better. The song "Sail on Soothsayer" has so much emotion in it I find myself just getting lost in the music altogether. Contrast that to my thoughts on the album "Cyborg Slunks" which I find almost unlistenable,(except for the song "Aunt Suzie") and you will understand my mining analogy. If you are new to Buckethead this may not be the best place to start, I might recommend "Monsters and Robots", "Electric Tears" or "Colma" (ho-hum, the usual recommendations). If you are familiar with Bucket and you enjoy his untraditional style then you will love this album I'm sure. One of his best!

Solid Buckethead,

Buckethead has produced a solid album. Completely in the Buckethead style although different. It's not as eccentric as some of this other albums but is almost an amalgam of everything he's done to date. The songs seem more balanced between the incidental effects and the melodic/rythmic components.
Very good album. Very listen able album. This may be the album that gets non-fans on board and appreciate his uniqueness and inventiveness.

Possibly Bucket's Best,
This review is from: Decoding the Tomb Bansheebot (Audio CD)
This is an awesome CD, possibly Bucket's best. Buckethead's seamless oscillation between sonic shred and melancholy lullaby remains unmatched. Here listeners encounter the virtuoso harnessing his outrageously eccentric talent into listenable, compelling tracks. The perfect CD for first time listeners, yet it's extremely satisfying for long time listeners. Tracks like Asylum of Glass, Ghost Host, Killing Cone, Bloodless, and Checkerboard Incision reaffirm Buckethead as one of the world's premier guitarists. A must buy. Hail robot-dancing, nunchucking, guitar-slinging masked giants! Submit to the audio-psycho-excellence that is Buckethead.

One of Bucket's Finest Albums to Date,
This review is from: Decoding the Tomb Bansheebot (Audio CD)
I have listened to a very vast amount of Buckethead and I can solidly say that this is one of his best new albums to date. Every song is solid while Stretching Lighthouse and Sail on Soothsayer are my favorites. Buckethead keep up the amazing work!

I Can Only Carry 50 Chickens at a Time,

Wow. This is Buckethead at his most awesome and (yes) accessible. The typically vast stretches of musical ideas along with the excellent recording and mind-wreckingly heavy tunes just plain drives. This is heavy music...really heavy - my family can't stand it but I can't help but blast the JBL 4412s and annoy the neighbors with this. Dual-tracked guitars through most of it, maddening stereo guitars, along with the excellent bass and (unfortunate but still incredibly well-done) drum machine gives us continued hope that, as William Burroughs lamented, music can indeed be used as a weapon.
Buckethead continues to be today's most exciting guitarist, period. And I'm old enough to remember all the others, dude. While certainly not his most "experimental" endeavor this has to rank up there as one of the most brilliant "heavy" guitar pieces of all time.

Nothing to get excited about,

Like so many of his recent albums, this one lacks feeling, lacks cohesion, lacks what I love about Bucket's music. These songs are forgettable.
