Decomposer is finally here! After a long wait since their first album, The Matches have followed up with an album just as good or better than E von dahl. The variety on this album is amazing, you have circus- like anthems such as "salty eyes," dance club friendly "you know me," 80s tinged "the barber's unhapiness", and a plethora of songs that are completely their own.

I do think that to some degree the tracks may be "overproduced" but not to the level that bands such as "panic! at the disco" have gone, wheras they cannot manage to play some songs live to the same degree they can on the album. The matches played the whole album between their CD release dates, and the reviews of the shows were very good! If they can pull the songs off live, i dont think the tracks are overproduced.
All in all, people who like almost any flavor of music will have something to like in this album, its a great one!

This CD is so good it's sick! From the first note to the last it is a masterpiece. I can not believe this band is not the biggest band in the pop, punk, hard rock, emo type scene. Highlights are Papercut skin, Clumsy heart, Lazier than the furniture, Little Maggots, I guess the list could go on to about every song really.

If you don't own this, but have made it this far as to be reading a review...BUY IT. You will love it!

OH...and their first CD is just as good.

This cd is amazing. With sounds that range from techno beats (Drive) to orchestral lead-ins (Salty Eyes) The Matches have truly created a diverse unique and all around great sounding record. Intricate layers of sound are put into every song so that every time you listen, something new jumps out at you. Along with being maddeningly catchy, the tracks on Decomposer have potential for greatness with respects to Shoot Me In The Smile and Didi. All around a great buy from a band determined to break any and all types of molds.

I work with a lady, and she listens to music all day long. Now and again she gets bored.
"Can I borrow a CD?" She says.
Varied responses. She wasn't huge on My Chemical Romance or The Elms. She was okay with Damone.
This time I gave her The Matches' Decomposer. Then the next day she asked to borrow it again. And again the third day. She's 37 and likes this CD. Not that 37 year olds have bad tastes, but this CD is well-written to attract audiences of Punk, Euro-Pop, Dance Punk-Pop, New Wave, Alternative and a bunch of other genres that I can't label.
Favorite tracks Salty Eyes, Little Maggots, Sunburn versus the Rhinovirus, and The Barber's Unhappiness. Please buy and support the Matches.

The Matches are back. They still have the catchy melodies and lyrics that will be stuck in your head for days, but with this album they have matured and increased their musical prowes. With many different producers working with the band, the cd offers a wide range of sounds within itself. With Shawn Harris's unique vocals backed by bouncy, catchy guitar and bass this album can appeal to several genres. Punk, pop-punk, alternative, experimental, and so on. The Matches have not only over come the sophmore album slump, they've done so with a more unique and progressive sound. I personally cannot wait to see what this band has in store for the future. No matter what I see it being amazing.

I've been following the Matches since their first album came out. I loved their first album, but I was paranoid/excited about this one coming out. I'm glad it doesn't sound the same as E. Von Dahl Killed The Locals, I mean who wants to listen to music that is always repetitive? I don't think the album is over produced. I think it is just fine the way it is. Who has the right to tell them what they can or cannot do? It's good to push the boundaries man. Shawn's voice is amazing on every track and overall it's pretty good. Especially, on the first track, Salty Eyes. I'm in love with that song, it just makes me want to get up and dance with someone to it. I can't wait until they come back to Chicago, the show is going to be amazing live! I got the album the day it came out and I've memorized every track. I'm impressed to be this hooked on the album. I recommend everybody to get this album, and if you haven't already bought the other one go out and get it. Peace!

Since I have been such a diehard fan of The Matches, I was extremely excited/nervous for this new album. I was excited because I had been waiting for their second album for three years! I couldn't wait any longer. I was also nervous though just because I was such an enormous fan. Would it be as fantastic as their first cd? Would their sound have totally changed? Thank God, I was relieved on both counts.

I got Decomposer the day before it came out and was totally amazed by it. Yeah, it sounds different than E. Von Dahl, but do we really want them to sound the same everytime? It shows the talent of the band to be able to mature and develop their own sound. Every track on this album brings its own to the table and works to make Decomposer complete. It's almost impossible to pick a favorite track because they all are incredible in their own ways. In true Matches style, Harris has crafted strange, yet fitting metaphors which make the songs all the more poiniant.

And I completely disagree with those people who think that the album is over produced. Yeah, it sounds like that at first, but then think about it. Their last ablum had almost no production because, oh yeah, they recorded it in someone's bedroom or living room. Back when The Matches started out, their was no opportunity to work big production into their songs. Now that they have the opportunity, they are taking advantage of the ability to try new things and improve the songs. Harris' vocals still give that raw edge that we all have come to love in The Matches songs. They still set themselves apart from every single band out there. Creativity and talent never go out of style.

This alblum could get no better. It has made me love The Matches even more than I did before, which I thought was impossible. Amazing. Period.

So their first cd was mostly pop-punk (except for a few tracks). This album is not as easy to describe. It starts with classical instruments on the first track "salty eyes". for the next one "Drive" the band goes with a new wave sound and is one of my favorite songs on the cd. Definitely a standout track. Shawn's vox on this song seem off somewhat here and on a few others, but i really think it was left in on purpose. b/c the music is crazy having in tune vox would make it sound normal. the band obviously wanted to be different and they accomplished their mission. "Sunburn vs rhinovirus" features lyrics that are clever like i blew my brains out....thru my nose. the song is about having a head cold on the beach. it's really well done with a gun going off in the song. sounds really cool on the headphones. one of the riffs on "didi" sounds like some van halen song. i like the lyrics where shawn says my girl ,shes a little bit pyscho/ she wears her head inside out/ i hope that she looks alright tho with the lights low, with the lights low. "You (don't) know me" has a weird sound to it. The verse is rockabilly the chorus is kinda ska. Hard to describe but another good one. anyways this has to be one of the year's best and it is definitely the most original. similar bands: Say Anything, Imarobot.

I just want to start by saying tha decomposer is simply amazing. Before I heard it, I had a feeling that it was going to be different from E Von Dahl. I was right. It seems that every song I listen to, I find myself saying, I really like this song. It is hard to put in words how good the album actually is. The Matches simply are amazing and obviously can write some pretty sweet stuff.

As far as overproduced, you need to realize that E Von Dahl was produced by The Matches. I am pretty sure they could have a 100 people help produce this album. I think with the help they got and who it was, says this is going to go big and they abviously want it to go big. I think that the album is amazing and genius. The Matches flippin rock and always will.

A week ago, I had no idea who The Matches were. My son likes +44 and I took him to the show here in town, and The Matches were the opening band. After their explosive performance on stage, Shawn Harris (the lead singer, and a cool guy) went through the crowd selling CDs. I have been playing the CD all week long, and I can't get enough of it!! They have an eclectic sound that probably most closely resembles the early Weezer CDs (Which were fantastic!) They are hard to pin down to one type though, because this CD is across the board, and just very well-crafted. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up, you won't be sorry!!
