5.0 out of 5 stars The Birth of Extreme Music, February 24, 2005
By
This review is from: Decontrol the Singles (Audio CD)
If you read any history on extreme music, on the internet, in a book etc. it's more than likely that Discharge is going to be mentioned somewhere. Discharge is often credited with inspiring the musicians who listened to them to play faster, heavier and crazier. These young musicians went on to form Napalm Death, Morbid Angel, Carcass etc. Upon listening to the collection of singles, it's not hard to see why Discharge is credited with laying the foundation for what would eventually become grindcore. Loud, abrasive and in yer face, these songs grab you by the throat and squeeze....hard. If you're looking for virtuoso musicianship, you're looking in the wrong place, these guys pound and thrash their instruments, song after song and to be completely honest I've never heard a better punk band.
It's a shame that punk went the way it did and didn't evolve from this, well there's grind but that's a whole different story. Instead you have MTV calling Good Charlotte, Blink 182 and Green Day punk.....oh, well what can you do. If you're looking for real punk with attitude go for this, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A 21 Gun Salute To Discharge, May 8, 2005
This review is from: Decontrol the Singles (Audio CD)
All late 70s early 80s Discharge stuff was grade A kick Ass True Punk/Hardcore music. Decontrol has a collection of a lot of their best songs. Unfortunately all but the lead singer (Kevin, AKA Cal)left the band mid 80s on to form other Punk bands, then Cal not only changed the style of the music to a more Metal sound (Metal sucks), but also sang with a raspy hard to tolorate voice. A great Punk band should never go Metal. Punk was smart
& had guts. With in your face, anti system/religion/authority, pro Anarchy lyrics it never went Bubble Gum like Metal & other Music. It also offered lyrics that were thought provoking & real unlike other genres that had meaningless songs that said nothing that matteres. Fortunately all the band members reunited early 2000 & put out a new LP titled "Discharge" that had their old Punk sound with Cal's original voice. If you purchase this CD along with 2 other CDs "Hear nothng, see nothing, say nothing", & "Discharge" then you will have a collection of all their great Punk songs. The Punk band Discharge should be on the top 5 list of best/most influential Punk bands. I've been a fan since 1980. Love their old stuff just as much today as I did then. If you are in to Hardcore Punk & Punk (the real Punk not that MTV poser s**t that is not Punk) you will really like this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars SERIOUS ABOUT PUNK ROCK.... IF NOT STAY AWAY FROM THIS, May 21, 2003
By
Chris Dufresne (San Diego, California USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Decontrol (Audio CD)
One of the first originators of this genre. Do I need to say more??? How about the bands that have been trying to imitate discharge since the early 80's and now in 2003 you still see 'DIS-' bands trying to tap into this style of music. Discharge started it. Could the music be that good that 20 years later people want to play it? This is fuel that started punk music revolution and reason punk won't go away. I was beyond fortunate to have witnessed lots of these songs performed here in america in mid-80's and wouldn't trade those experiences for the world. This album is your chance at sharing awesome punk rock a well.
