This is a fantastic kit...if you follow the directions, you will never buy a cake from a store again! The parts are pretty sturdy, and the little pirates are so cute! Also, the mast goes all the way to the bottom of the cake, so all the rails and 'rope' are anchored pretty well. I'd definitely recommend this product, and others from this company, for consumption as an alternative to store bought cakes...plus, you have the pleasure of baking for your loved ones and taking all the credit!

My 4 year old loved his cake. You have to make 2 quarter sheet cakes and some colored icing and decorating tips and you have a pirate cake. It was fairly simple easy to assemble. Pieces are totally reusable or re-salable.

This kit made it very easy to create a special birthday cake. I made the cake from 3 layers, sized 9x13. After stacking the layers, I cut away the corners from the front and trimmed the sides to make them even and angled down a little. I used left over parts to make a raised area on the back and on the front . Then I just covered the whole thing with store bought chocolate icing. The pieces from the kit really makes this cake look good. It was quick and easy to assemble. I would definitely recommend this kit to others.

Cake came out beautiful. It arrived on time and my grandson was thrilled with the cake. Pan was easy to clean up.

My son's birthday seems to always fall on the hottest day in July, so every ambitious cake I have attempted has fallen apart very quickly. This pirate ship cake was really easy and didn't have to be put together completely until the end so there was less time for it to melt in the heat.
I have a few suggestions though to save you from my mistakes. If you are using a moist cake mix, make sure you bake them long enough to stack the cakes. In other words, if the box suggests 25-30 minutes, go with 29-30 minutes so it doesn't fall apart. Also, a stiff frosting works better than the stuff in a can because it will harden over time and make the mast more secure and keep the deck from sliding off.
Overall, my son loved the cake. His cousins were thrilled and the adults were impressed. I couldn't ask for a better result.

Was super easy to do, make 2 9x13 cakes, 1 9x9, cut, frosted, put in these decorations and it was a huge hit! Mine was a bit bigger than picture (because I didn't have a sheet cake, so had to make my own set up), but, becuase the sails/ropes are on "hooks" to the mast, there is a fair amount of flexibility so you don't have to do it super precisely, there is alot of wiggle room. Was well liked by birthday boy.
