About the Author

Hockey-moms-turned-business-partners Ki Nassauer and Sue Whitney scour salvage yards, city clean-ups, and even abandoned grocery stores and bowling alleys looking for trash to rejuvenate into striking home decor. The rubbish renovators operate JUNKMARKET, their workshop and warehouse where they also conduct occasional but wildly popular sales of vintage furniture and their own one-of-a-kind junk creations of furniture and whimsical accessories. In 2004, the JUNKMARKET girls debuted a new gift line in Target Stores. Popularity has spurred a column for Country Home magazine, and Nassauer and Whitney also appear on national and regional television shows. In addition, they offer junking seminars for avid followers (their mailing list has grown to 18,000) who are inspired by eclectic tastes from the junking underworld.

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst decorating book ever! January 25, 2006
Format:Paperback
I can't believe everyone else has rated this so highly. The ideas are not inspired at all, and everything still looks like junk--junky junk. There is one (one!) good idea in my opinion, and that is the coffee table made out of an old covered playpen. Unfortunately, the chances of finding such a playpen are zero to nil.

The pictures don't help. The book design is too "artsy" and the ladies have placed numerous pictures of themselves doing "funny" things into it. A complete waste of space. There is not much information to be gained from the photos.

Overall I was very disappointed with this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars BOUGHT IT FOR MY WIFE April 29, 2005
Format:Paperback
I've always encouraged my wife to sell her creations but she's comfortable just making things for our home and for family and friends. She's been taking stuff out of garage sales or even off the garbage heap and turning them into wonderful creations for years. That's why she was so excited to read this book that was totally up her alley. While we live in the the 'burbs, her heart is for a country-style home and this book has provided her with many ideas to create decorative items that match her country tastes. I don't think she's made anything exactly out of the book but rather used it as a brain-stormer to adapt things she's already picked up, mainly for outside decor and the garden. The book is filled with outstanding photograhphy and excellent instructions. It will certainly inspire you to create some interesting items for your own home.

Some great ideas in this little book. If you like junk, you'll probably like this one. Not the best Junk idea book, but I always believe if a couple good ideas come from it, then it is worth the money!
