The worst decorating book ever!,
This review is from: Decorating JunkMarket Style (Paperback)
I can't believe everyone else has rated this so highly. The ideas are not inspired at all, and everything still looks like junk--junky junk. There is one (one!) good idea in my opinion, and that is the coffee table made out of an old covered playpen. Unfortunately, the chances of finding such a playpen are zero to nil.
The pictures don't help. The book design is too "artsy" and the ladies have placed numerous pictures of themselves doing "funny" things into it. A complete waste of space. There is not much information to be gained from the photos. Overall I was very disappointed with this book.

BOUGHT IT FOR MY WIFE,
This review is from: Decorating JunkMarket Style (Paperback)
I've always encouraged my wife to sell her creations but she's comfortable just making things for our home and for family and friends. She's been taking stuff out of garage sales or even off the garbage heap and turning them into wonderful creations for years. That's why she was so excited to read this book that was totally up her alley. While we live in the the 'burbs, her heart is for a country-style home and this book has provided her with many ideas to create decorative items that match her country tastes. I don't think she's made anything exactly out of the book but rather used it as a brain-stormer to adapt things she's already picked up, mainly for outside decor and the garden. The book is filled with outstanding photograhphy and excellent instructions. It will certainly inspire you to create some interesting items for your own home.

Some great ideas in this little book. If you like junk, you'll probably like this one. Not the best Junk idea book, but I always believe if a couple good ideas come from it, then it is worth the money!

Just ok,
This review is from: Decorating JunkMarket Style (Paperback)
I was not overly impressed. I love shopping for salvage items and giving them new life. However, although they definitely give some unique and different ideas, it just was not my style. There are definitely better books out there addressing this topic.

Not So Simple Stuff,
By Keeping Life Simple (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Decorating JunkMarket Style (Paperback)
I recently reviewed this book for my ladies group. Some interesting things here, but the practicality of much of it all eludes me. While this may very well be a fun hobby for the 50-something authors (post-retirement perhaps), the costs for the average person to travel around the country to find some of this so-called junk - if one can even find some of it, combined with the costs of shipping it back to your home and then more costs to transform it into newer, improved pieces of junk seem quite prohibitive to me, and overly complicated I have to think. Since many of these items appear to have similarities to various items sold by Pottery Barn and other chic home boutiques, it would seem most practical to simply go this route and spare yourself all other hassles, time , and costs. Just an opinion from someone who bends toward keeping life as simple and uncomplicated as possible. Each to their way as they say.

A delightful book with a number of unusual ideas.Sue and Ki,
the two flea market friends, travel the U.S.A. pointing out their favorite spots to shop across the land. With maps and helpful suggestions on where to eat,you join the journey. I admit some of the ideas did seem "far out" for most of us; but it is fun to see what they create,or strive to,out of the abundance of old treasures and junk. Some of the items-the pictures 4 by 6 mounted on a wood drying frame, made me realize, that I could do that.Others such as the attractive towel rack & toliet tank selves in a bathroom, seemed a good way to recyle on this planet.I also enjoyed the uses of an old screen door.(In the not so long ago sixties, people put them up in their house,to protect new babies and Toddler's from pets coming in to visit.)Some pages have included instuctions to DIY. A clever guide and what you need to take to the best U.S. Flea Markets. p.s.Sue and Ki have recently started a bi-monthly magazine currently on the market. It has the May-June Issue. It should prove interesting to see the new ideas. There are very few ad verdisments, which make it worthwhile.I am looking forward to the Autumn and Christmas issues. These gals keep the ideas rolling.

I have been junking for years and thought I would like this book, but was disappointed. There are alot of things in it but not much that I would really consider using as decor in my house. These ladies are talented and have a quirky style- if you are looking for unique items made from found objects , this is for you.

I picked up a junk market magazine at a second hand book store, loved it, and was then introduced to the "junk sisters". I looked at stores for more books they may have but did not succeed. So, I searched the internet and found this one and I love reading it and I get new ideas everytime I thumb through it. Definitely a must have for "fellow 'junk' treasure hunters!"

I purchase a lot of these types of books for inspiration. I can honestly say this was one of my favorites. Great ideas, fun to read. If you are like me with an old house full of odds and ends, you will truly be inspired.
