The pictures were colorful and the ideas were very creative. The author even tells how to sponge paint, stencil, paint murals, and other challenges. I only wish there had been more info on where to buy what you see in the book and exactly what colors of what brands of paints to use. A wonderful book if you want to stay away from wallpaper!

I had no idea how I wanted to decorate the nursery for my first child, so I quickly turned to several books. This book contains examples of many different decors, with helpful discussions of themes, practicality, and choosing items that will last beyond the nursery stage. The book is an excellent value as it provides a lot of ideas, including instructions for creating some of the ideas shown. It has inspired me to create some of the looks in my own home.

I honestly wish I had perused this book in a store before buying it online. Its ideas are applicable in the 80s (maybe early 90s), but not in today's culture or technological climate. An expecting parent may appreciate the nursery ideas, but I was very disappointed by the ideas for older children (those that are out of cribs).
I think we could all come up with the idea of painting a funky pattern on a dresser on our own - if you're looking for real ideas or inspiration, this is not the book. Sorry.

The book is larger than I expected. It has many beautiful photos of infant rooms, toddler rooms, kids rooms and teen rooms. It also features bathrooms and play areas. All of the photos are inspiring. Of special note, are the creative uses of fabrics and the color schemes. There are a few themed rooms, such as bugs, dogs, butterflies or nursery rhymes, but most of the rooms feature designs are almost timeless in elegance and would grow with the child. Some of the rooms are quite elegant! Some are even extravagant.

The reasons I gave the book 4 instead of 5 stars, are as follows:

1. There are far fewer boys rooms. Anyone looking for ideas for boys' rooms only would find this resource very limiting. There are, however, a few more boy's rooms in the teen category than in the younger age groups.

2. Several of the rooms (especially baby rooms) have special features that many people may not have, such as built-in shelving and window seats. All rooms appear very large, as well, and all seem to be in very expensive homes.

3. There are really no rooms that reflect great design on a budget or in limited space. The book presupposes that the sky is the limit when it comes to the size and cost of decorating a child's room.

I flipped through it and tossed it in the trash.

I didn;t expect brand new but was not expecting a 16 year book for decorating ideas!
